This role requires the Embedded Consultant to be deployed on site in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) for the duration of their deployment.

The successful candidate will be accountable for leading and delivering operational strategy and capacity development for the Asset Protection Department with specific focus on loss prevention, investigations and the training and development of Asset Protection employees. The Embedded Consultant is responsible for ensuring that all Asset Protection and security service provider personnel deployed are appropriately trained with particular focus on the application of Force Continuum and the Voluntary Principals of Security and Human Rights (VSHPR).

The Embedded Consultant will be required to define and take ownership of strategies developed, as well as provide the training required to deliver best-in-class Asset Protection capabilities required to enable and maintain a safety and cost conscious operation. This role requires the candidate to be business focused to facilitate a high-performance culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence within their department. Through intelligence gathering and analysis, the Embedded Consultant should enable loss prevention, investigations and the management of public security and legal service relationships, which are key to the deliverables of the role.

In doing so, the candidate should facilitate cross departmental co-operation and collaboration to deliver in depth security and maximize business value, by ensuring site and corporate strategic initiatives are translated into business goals.

  • Owns and leads Asset Protection Strategy and Capability activities in alignment with the approved Budget.
  • In collaboration with the General Manager of Asset Protection, develops and implements the Department Strategy and Plan aligned to the Copper Security Standard, monitors department achievement against the plan.
  • Sets the strategic plan, inspires, and influences team members to assume ownership of the plan’s goals.
  • Establishes, communicates, and monitors quality and performance standards, embedding a philosophy of continuous improvement and operational excellence.
  • Tracks performance against plans and key performance indicators, timely addressing of variances to ensure delivery of department commitments, goals, and objectives.
  • Maintains strict cost and performance disciple through effective mid-month and month-end financial processes. Routinely analyses expenditure and commitments to address variances.
  • Complies with reporting timelines and standard including month-end processes.
  • Effective in engaging and managing contractors and business partners by following due process in complying with contractor management, procurement and invoice procedures and processes.
  • Undertakes all business in adherence to the company Code of Conduct, Anti-Bribery and Corruption and Fraud prevention policies, procedures, and strategies.

Exposures and reputation

  • Establish and maintain effective balanced collaborative relationships with the local, regional, and national law enforcement authorities to identify and manage security and criminal threats to site.
  • Manages liaison and interaction with host nation public security providers in alignment with company guidance, setting clear boundaries, accountabilities, and appropriate escalation processes.
  • Sets the strategy and expectations for private security provider deployments, including specific requirements for the deployment and control of dogs and dog teams; provides training and assurance as required.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains a full range of site-specific training packages for all Asset Protection members and security providers, including the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights (VPSHR), Use of Force Continuum, national laws, and incident reporting requirements.
  • Monitors and ensures that there is adherence to the VPSHR requirements at an operational and investigative level. Promptly investigates any actual or potential reports of human rights abuse.
  • Undertake asset protection investigations in compliance with prevailing laws and VPSHR ensuring confidentiality is upheld and informant identities protected; ensures that all resulting prosecutions are as per DRC law through working closely with the Client’s legal officers.

Requirements

Essential

  • A minimum 15 years relevant asset protection or security experience, including experience in Copper or Gold operations and/or oil and gas and/or wildlife protection.
  • A robust understanding of best practice in safe Asset Protection.
  • In depth knowledge of Human Rights principles for security operations; specifically, VPSHR.
  • Previous tactical/operational experience in law enforcement or military highly regarded.
  • Practical experience in a security specific training and development role. and conducting investigations (both compliance and safety).
  • Proficient in French or Swahili language.
