We are hiring a Risk Assessment Toxicologist to join our Pre-Clinical group in Richmond, VA. or we are open to remote work arrangements.

The selected candidate will use their scientific and technical expertise to conduct and write toxicological risk assessments in support of regulatory submissions and product stewardship activities.

What you'll be doing: - Independently author toxicological risk assessments in support of Altria’s highly regulated business - Evaluate scientific literature for appropriateness of use in risk assessment - Understand methodologies such as read-across and (Q)SAR - Apply relevant chemical and toxicological information to develop risk assessments for product/material evaluations to support regulatory submissions - Provide product stewardship support across products, materials, ingredients, technologies , manufacturing processes, etc. for Altria’s Operating Companies. - Lead and participate in cross-functional teams, providing scientific expertise while representing the Pre-Clinical team and Regulatory Sciences - Monitor the scientific literature as well as maintain and expand relationships with key opinion leaders in academia in the areas of risk assessment and tobacco regulatory research - Participate in national and international scientific meetings and conferences to maintain and expand technical expertise

What we want you to have: - PhD in toxicology or related field (e.g., pharmacology, biochemistry or other biomedical science) with 0-2 years or MSc in toxicology or related field with a minimum of 3 years of experience in toxicology or relevant experience supporting toxicology - Working knowledge of toxicology principles and an understanding of the basic principles of risk assessment. Experience performing or reviewing risk assessments, and writing technical reports and recommendations is preferred - Experience in industrial and/or regulatory toxicology, U.S., and international regulatory environments - Experience with applying predictive toxicology methods (e.g., read-across), toxicological modeling (e.g., dose-response modelling), and/or computational toxicology (e.g., SAR/QSAR) approaches to address toxicological issues (preferred) - Experience in risk assessment/analysis in a regulatory environment - Ability to analyze/synthesize data to develop significant insights and conclusions - Expertise in interpreting relevant studies to assess product safety - Outstanding verbal and written communication skills for presenting and communicating results/data to both scientists and non-scientists - Strong leadership skills and the ability to use those skills in cross-functional teams
