As a Customs specialist you will be required to compare data with source documents, check for accuracy and re-enter data in verification format to detect errors.
You will be expected to be able to sort and verify the accuracy of data before it is entered and locate and correct data entry errors, so a keen eye for picking up errors or potential errors is important.
Although you may be part of a team, you may also have to work unsupervised, so you must be capable of self-management and selecting materials needed to complete work assignments without the assistance of other people.
This person will be required to work: - 12.30 pm-9 pm (4.15pm -5.15pm lunch break) {One of these days will be a half day (5.15 pm -9pm)} - Saturday 8.30am-12.15pm
Key Responsibilities - Our Customs Clearance Operators are required to complete and input via EDI systems, customs entries for cargo arriving and leaving through UK ports, for both external and internal customers. This includes all aspects of Import & Export customs procedures and regulations. - Operational - ensuring that all documentation is completed accurately, correctly, and presented within the expected time frames as designated by HMRC regulations, raising any potential declarations issues to your immediate supervisor. - Customer service - Providing excellent customer service and keeping our customers promptly advised on entry completion and confirmation of VAT and duty costs as received from customs. We also advise our customers of any imposed local Customs holds that could affect planned delivery. Spotting and raising any issues causing cargo to be delayed through customs clearance documentation errors, especially giving cause to possible demurrage cost and flagging these to the supervisor. - Administration - All VAT and Duty invoices for which the Customer is liable on costs, are to be generated and completed within our Transport Management System.
Skills Knowledge and Expertise - Must have previous experience in Freight forwarding/ customs. - Accuracy and attention to detail is crucial. - Excellent organisational skills. - Ability to work on your own initiative. - Communicate accurately and in a fast paced, teamwork environment. - Flexibility and adaptability to constantly changing conditions. - Able to complete tasks with minimal supervision, ability to multitask. - Must have CDS exposure and be able to submit declaration based on the new HMRC system - Understand rules of origin and preference of goods - Governing customs and compliance regulations and staying up to date of any new laws via HMRC - E-Customs Software knowledge is beneficial - Efficient with Microsoft Office applications - Excel, Word and Powerpoint - Understanding different customs regimes
