Coordinator for Student Life Job Description

Position Overview

The Coordinator for Student Life is a 12-month, live-on position that assists the Director of Housing and Student Life with the successful day-to-day operations of the Office of University Housing at Bengal Village and is chiefly responsible for advising the Campus Activities Board (CAB) to engage both residential and commuter students. The Coordinator is responsible for staffing, supervising, and training student resident assistant (RA) staff to meet the needs of all 216 student residents during office hours and after hours/weekends.

Description

Specific Position Duties

Housing Operations

  • Be knowledgeable about all day-to-day operations of the housing office, including office opening and closing procedures, processing paperwork, answering phones, etc.
  • Establish an office schedule for resident assistants to work office hours.
  • Train, supervise, and motivate resident assistants to ensure competency in carrying out basic office management functions with outstanding customer service.
  • Maintain accurate and organized key and paperwork filing systems
  • Facilitate monthly health and wellness inspections conducted by RA staff and enforce policy and health/safety violations
  • Conduct room-to-room inspections during the summer months, reporting maintenance and cleaning issues as needed to ensure room readiness for Fall move-in,

Student Life

  • Advise the Campus Activities Board and provide a comprehensive schedule of campus activities throughout the fall, spring and summer semesters.
  • Develop and implement a programming model for both residential and commuter students. Oversee the successful execution of all activity logistics to ensure quality and standards of excellence..
  • Track achievement of programming efforts, ensuring adherence to the programming model.
  • Advise and support both RAs and CAB in building community through both active and passive programming initiatives.
  • Manage a programming and staff development budget as established by the Director of Housing and Dean of Students at the beginning of each academic year.
  • Manage the social media pages for the Campus Activities Board to promote future events and to publish photos from recent events to share successes with the University community

Staff Development

  • Along with the Director of Housing, develop an equitable and inclusive resident assistant selection process
  • Develop and implement RA Competencies to guide all training and development initiatives.
  • Host monthly RA staff meetings and in-service trainings to provide ongoing teambuilding and staff development throughout the year and to address issues in performance that may arise.
  • Host monthly one-on-one meetings with each RA to discuss performance and development
  • Plan and facilitate pre-service RA trainings prior to each Fall and Spring semesters.

Student Conduct & Upholding Community Standards

  • Adjudicate first offense and lower-level student conduct cases as assigned by the Chief Student Conduct Officer for violations of the Living on Campus Handbook and the Code of Student Conduct that occur within the community.     
  • Make decisions on alleged violations in a fair and unbiased manner
  • Track completion of sanctions for open conduct cases, following up when necessary.
  • Impose creative and educational sanctions on students found responsible of violations to educate and develop students towards more productive behavior

  • Other Duties
  • Serve on an on-call rotation split between this position, the Director of Housing, and the Dean of Students, following proper incident response protocols when responding to after hour and weekend emergencies.
  • Serve as a campus safety authority
  • Serve on various campus committees
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Housing and/or the Dean of Students

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university is required.
  • Two years experience working at a college or university..
  • Good organizational, communicative, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
     

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in student personnel, higher education, or related field from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Two to five years professional experience working in student life and/or college student housing.


Salary:             $30,000 - $32,000
