A Postdoctoral Researcher, or Senior Postdoctoral Researcher position is available in the Department of Physics and Astronomy and the Hearne Institute of Theoretical Physics as part of a new Air Force Office of Scientific Research “Materials Characterization and Quantum Performance: Correlation and Causation (MQC)” program, aimed at improving the performance of transmon qubits. This position will focus on first principles electronic structure calculations. The successful applicant must be able to collaborate closely with internal groups focusing on analytical and numerical calculations and with external experimental groups as part of a larger collaborative effort within this AFOSR program. Presentation of results at conferences and meetings and publication in scientific journals are expected. (Senior level) Mentor graduate assistants.
Required Qualifications: Postdoctoral: Ph.D. in theoretical physics, theoretical Chemistry, or related field. Senior Postdoctoral Researcher: Ph.D. in theoretical physics, theoretical Chemistry, or related field plus three years of experience.
Desired qualifications: The successful candidate needs experience with first principles simulation methods and tools. Experience with molecular dynamics is a plus.
Special Requirements: Research involves spending a portion of time off-site at experimental laboratories.
Additional Position Information: The position will be open immediately for an initial one-year appointment with the option to be renewed for up to two years. Salary and level will be dependent upon the candidate's qualifications.
