Research Analyst for Environmental and Natural Resources Law and Policy **

Overview**

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Research Analyst to join our team and contribute to our mission of advancing environmental stewardship and natural resource governance within Indigenous communities. This role will play a pivotal part in conducting comprehensive research and analysis on environmental and natural resources law and policy at various levels of government. The ideal candidate will bring a passion for serving Tribal Nations and Indigenous communities, along with a strong interest in environmental protection and natural resource management. **

About Our Institute**

Our Institute is dedicated to empowering Tribal Nations in their leadership roles regarding natural resource governance and environmental stewardship. We focus on safeguarding Indigenous cultural heritage, promoting innovative environmental solutions, and advocating for tribal sovereignty over natural resources. Our core objectives include:

  • Monitoring and analyzing environmental issues impacting Indian Country.
  • Conducting in-depth research on environmental and natural resource policy, law, and programs.
  • Advocating for tribal sovereignty and stewardship of critical natural resources.
  • Facilitating knowledge-sharing and collaboration among Tribal Nation leaders, partners, and supporters.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting research and synthesizing findings to draft reports, memoranda, and other communications.
  • Ensuring the accuracy and professionalism of written materials through cite-checking, fact-checking, and Bluebooking.
  • Supporting the monitoring of environmental law and policy developments.
  • Engaging with internal and external partners and stakeholders.
  • Coordinating and participating in meetings, presentations, and events.
  • Managing projects and tracking progress towards Institute goals.
  • Contributing to grant writing and representing the Institute at conferences and events.

Qualifications

  • Excellent writing, research, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with legal databases, Microsoft Office/Google Workspace, and social media platforms.
  • An associate or bachelor's degree in law, paralegal studies, Indigenous/Native American studies, environmental studies, or a related field.
  • At least three years of professional experience in legal research and analysis.
  • Paralegal/Certified Legal Assistant certification is a plus.
  • Familiarity with environmental and natural resource issues affecting Indigenous communities.
  • Experience in project management and public records request processes.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit at a desk and work on a computer for extended periods.
  • Capacity to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally.

Compensation And Work Environment

  • Salary range: $60,000-$70,000, depending on experience and qualifications.
  • This is a full-time position, requiring up to 40 hours per week, with the potential for additional hours leading up to and following major conferences and events.
  • Remote work is an option for this role.
