Job description

Language forms the bedrock of understanding, empathy, and connection. At the Children's Refugee Shelter, in collaboration with Teneo Linguistics Company, we comprehend this intimately. We are searching for a versatile Soninke Interpreter who can bridge the linguistic gap in diverse scenarios ranging from medical, legal, community, to everyday interactions, enhancing the comfort and comprehension of our young refugees.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide accurate and efficient Soninke interpretation services across a variety of settings, including medical, community, and legal contexts.
  • Facilitate communication between non-Soninke speaking staff and Soninke-speaking children, ensuring mutual understanding.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and abide by all ethical guidelines and standards of interpreting.
  • Assist with the translation of written materials as necessary.
  • Promote awareness among staff about the best practices of working with an interpreter.
  • Be sensitive to cultural differences and provide culturally appropriate services.
  • Assist with scheduling, coordination, and other administrative tasks as needed.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of professional experience as a Soninke interpreter, with exposure to medical, community, and legal interpreting scenarios.
  • Proficiency in English and Soninke.
  • Certification in Interpreting from an accredited institution is preferred.
  • Exceptional listening, retention, and note-taking skills.
  • Ability to navigate sensitive situations with discretion and professionalism.

Benefits

  • Play a pivotal role in fostering understanding and connection within the shelter, improving the overall experience for our children and staff alike.
  • Work in a multidisciplinary environment that promotes collaboration and continuous learning.
  • Opportunities for professional growth within a supportive and purposeful organization.
  • Experience the gratification that comes from being a crucial link in a chain of care and compassion.

As a Soninke Interpreter at the Children's Refugee Shelter, your role transcends language translation.
