Job Description

The Myriad Technology organization is looking for a Data Governance Specialist passionate about driving consistency and understanding for an organization. The position will help our data and analytics practice drive data literacy across the organization by providing a framework of consistency in data definitions and management and aligning key terminology within the company. Establishing processes and policies for change management and functional review will be a primary responsibility of the role. As the Data Governance Specialist, you will report directly to the Director of Business Intelligence and Analytics. The ideal candidate for this position will establish frameworks and tools for reference by the entire organization while leading the efforts to fill our data dictionary and business glossary.

The Data Governance Specialist role is crucial in our technology organization, driving data literacy and consistency across many functional pillars and enterprise platforms. The education of the organization in key terminology and metrics will allow leaders to trust and understand the information in hand to make informed, data-driven decisions. **

Responsibility**

Data Dictionary and Business Glossary

  • The primary responsibility of the Data Governance Specialist is to establish reference points for the organization around what information is recorded in our enterprise platforms and analytics platform (data dictionary) and to provide clarity and consistency in business terminology and metrics (Business Glossary). While not responsible for the terms and definitions in the company, this role is responsible for coordinating resources to manage and maintain our inventories.

Data Management

  • Coordinate with data management (Data Platform) and enterprise software engineering teams to ensure broadly understood data availability and definitions.

Communication and Reporting

  • As the Data Governance Specialist, you will communicate and drive consistency across functional leadership and technical teams. You communicate data flows and operational workflows effectively, facilitating enterprise data and metrics creation and management.
  • Provide regular updates and reports on data governance activities, issues, and progress to senior management and key stakeholders.

Training and Awareness

  • Conduct training and knowledge sharing sessions to generate organizational awareness of data governance progress, principles, policies, and best practices.

Project Management

  • The development of change management processes and the facilitation of the Data Dictionary and Business Glossary are long-term initiatives that must be planned and coordinated over time. This role will be responsible for planning and prioritization of governance and stakeholder activities.

Problem-Solving

  • As a consolidation point for enterprise information and data flows, you must plug into discussions to resolve complex and cross-functional problems. While not responsible for the ultimate resolution of the issues, you will be seen as a critical contributor to progress toward a resolution.

Interactions

The Data Governance Specialist will be a mix of a technical and collaborative, cross-functional role within Myriad. You will be expected to interact with senior leadership under our executive and technical teams to deliver well-informed, trusted, consistent definitions, metrics, and data elements. Navigating technical and strategic conversations will be a key capability of the ideal candidate. **

Qualifications**

  • Bachelor’s degree, ideally in a business or quantitative subject (e.g., computer science, mathematics, engineering, science, economics, or finance)
  • A master’s degree in information systems or business administration is a plus.
  • 3+ years in data governance or data management.
  • Experience in consulting or client management is a plus.
  • Experience in an industry-recognized governance platform (Collibra, Alation, Informatica, etc.)
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence and persuade stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with an obsessive attention to detail
  • Good stakeholder management experience. Comfortable presenting to senior and technical leadership.
