The incumbent will work in collaboration with the Associate VP, Innovation and Knowledge, under the direct guidance of Director, Canadian Institute for Social Prescribing (CISP), and working closely with a Project Manager and the CISP team, the successful candidate will be responsible for the evaluation of a grant-funded project to advance Social Prescribing Access for Caregivers (SPAC). The Specialist will be responsible for leading the design and implementation of common project evaluation across four provincial project partners adapted to local context. Deep understand of research and evaluation processes and best practices, critical thinking and deductive reasoning are essential, as is the ability to work independently. **

In this role, you will:**

  • Responsible for end-to-end research and evaluation of the multi-partner project, including but not limited to:
  • Design: Develop a common and feasible evaluation framework to measure project success, outcome, impact, cost/benefit and effectiveness in collaboration with project partners that align with committed project success indicators and best practices in caregiver support and social prescribing.
  • Planning: Develop methodologies, processes, tools and materials tailored to the needs of each project site to support data collection.
  • Monitoring: Ongoing support and mentorship for each project site to address barriers and support best practices in data collection and evaluation. Identify risks impacting evaluation and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Evaluation: Conduct focus groups, surveys and interviews as required, support data collection and ensuring data are reliable and valid.
  • Analysis: Collate, clean, prepare and analyze data, prepare accessible verbal and written reports in a variety of formats suitable for diverse stakeholders.
  • Knowledge mobilization: In collaboration with the Project Manager, support project sites and wider social prescribing network to utilize results for quality improvement and impact measurement, produce graphics, prepare manuscript for publication and present at events and conferences as opportunities arise.
  • Through desk/secondary research and regular scans, develop broad and current knowledge of the social determinants of health, population health, social prescribing with specific focus on caregiving and caregiver support.
  • Explore and develop relevant research partnerships and lead research efforts (ie research proposals, ethics applications, etc) as applicable.
  • Support Project Manager to provides detailed reports and communicates regularly with relevant project stakeholders, funders and CRC executives.
  • Provide research and evaluation support and capacity-building to the CRC national health team and social prescribing partners.
  • Engage collaboratively and cooperatively with internal and external stakeholders, including participants, partners, decision-makers, researchers and funders.
  • Contribute as an active member of the CISP team and the CRC national health team.
  • Contribute to a healthy and safe working environment.
  • Perform other duties, as required.

What we are looking for:

  • At minimum Masters degree or equivalent experience in public health, research methodology, epidemiology, statistics, health policy or recognized equivalent field.
  • A minimum of 5 years experience with research and evaluation design, implementation, analysis and knowledge mobilization in the Canadian healthcare sector.
  • Experience conducting research and evaluation focused on caregiving and caregiver support an asset.
  • Recent experience (within the last 3 years) in planning, leading and conducting evaluation studies/program evaluations (including developing logic models, program measures and evaluation strategies).
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to CISP core values of health equity, community leadership and collaboration.
  • Experience with social prescribing, social determinants of health, health equity and/or the health or community/voluntary sectors in Canada.
  • Knowledge or experience applying analytical frameworks to understand complex social issues.
  • Excellent methodological skills. Evidence of recent experience with using both quantitative and qualitative methods in evaluation or research studies (e.g. planning and conducting focus groups, interviews or surveys; analysis of administrative or other quantitative and qualitative data).
  • Demonstrated experience in developmental, realist and mixed methods evaluation and adoption of shared measurement frameworks into practice.
  • Excellent analytical skills; demonstrated experience in interpreting evaluation or research findings and providing recommendations and strategic advice to partners and management and leadership-level stakeholders.
  • Proficient with Microsoft software applications such as: Access, Excel, PowerBI, Fabric.
  • Experience with Nvivo or equivalent qualitative data analysis software.
  • Experience with Python, R or other functional/statistical programming languages an asset.
  • Experience working with diverse stakeholders and demonstrated ability to elicit cooperation and to build relationships across diverse groups.
  • Demonstrate considerable experience in writing and presenting reports to a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated understanding of community-based and participatory approaches to research and evaluation and commitment to equity, anti-racism, and anti-oppression principles and practices.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with resilience and adaptability to changing circumstances in an evolving environment.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills and the ability to think strategically and under pressure, without access to complete information.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and professionalism in handling issues and confidential information.
  • Excellent political, diplomatic, communication and negotiation skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English; French considered an asset.
  • Ability to travel both inside and outside of Canada is an asset.
