Job Title: Seafood Trader



The Company:

Our Client, is a company of professionals in the commerce and distribution of animal protein such as beef, chicken, pork and seafood worldwide with operations in Canada, China, and Mexico. Through their team of experts, they supply strategic information to keep you aware of cost variations and guarantee the highest quality products at the best price.



The Opportunity:

Our Client is looking for a high-performing candidate to join their sales team. This role will be responsible for the overall development and execution of the sales marketing strategy. Will to work simultaneously with procurement, producers and buyers. An existing book of business will be mandatory.


Responsibilities & Deliverables:

  • Establish a credible name in the market, while building a client portfolio

  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with suppliers and customers

  • Aggressively explore potential markets to attract and build business

  • Develop new products / categories for the company

  • Strong risk management skills and knowledge: proactively manage for optimal outcomes

  • Obtain market information for business development purposes

  • Negotiate terms of sale with suppliers and customers

  • Maximize gross profit by working with team members to create a value proposition for clients

  • Assist to develop domestic supply chain plan with Director of Supply Chain to ensure all logistics are completed and deadlines are met

  • Provide continuous customer service, deal and follow-up with any outstanding claims in a timely manner, and follow-up on all overdue accounts

  • Develop annual business plan in support of sales goals and objectives

  • Attend trade shows as appropriate

  • Trading physical commodities anywhere worldwide

  • Monitoring market trends to capitalize on trading opportunities



Qualifications & Competencies:

  • 5+ years’ experience in seafood trading and exposure to the relevant producers and end-users

  • Proven trading experience in seafood products.

  • Dynamic, “outside-the-box” problem solver with a “roll-up-your-sleeves” mentality

  • Highly self-motivated person who thrives in a dynamic work environment and demonstrates a flexible and adaptable work style that responds quickly

  • Probing nature which will result in the discovery of clients’ needs potentially beyond the current product offering

  • A demonstrated capacity and interest in learning and developing sales skills and product knowledge

  • Excellent time management skills and strong analytic abilities

  • Ambitious, innovative, with an entrepreneurial spirit

  • Takes ownership for decisions and is accountable for actions regardless of the outcome

  • Willingness to travel internationally and domestically

  • Excellent negotiating skills and the ability to overcome obstacles

  • Ability to speak Spanish is a definite asset

  • Must have a proven track record of profitable success in seafood trading and have the ability to work autonomously/independently
