JOB SUMMARYReporting to the Senior Director of Accounting & Reporting, the Senior Accountant applies professional training, analytical expertise, discretion and judgment to ensure timely and accurate daily, monthly and yearly accounting functions, including complex balance sheet reconciliation work, bank reconciliations, reconciling payroll withholding accounts and reconciling cash receipt and disbursement transactions, preparing journal entries as needed, and reconciling the ROI CRM and Unit 4 to bank records. This position works in coordination with the Associate Director, Payroll & Treasury.
DUTIES - Prepare complex balance sheet reconciliations including analyzing accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll withholding accounts and other asset and liability accounts to ensure accurate postings and ensure timely reconciliation of any discrepancies. Prepare adjusting entries to be uploaded in Unit 4. - Prepare bank reconciliations, including the main concentration account and all credit card and other cash account reconciliations, and make necessary adjusting entries. Additionally, support the historic sites with their cash reconciliations. Download and save all bank statements to the Finance drives. - Participate in month-end close processes, including recording the ZBA transfers and LOC interest transactions. - Reconcile ROI CRM system to Unit 4 and to bank. - Prepare the sales tax reconciliations by mid-month so the Associate Director, Accounts Payable & Receipting can make timely sales tax payments. - Assist the Senior Director of Accounting and Reporting with the monthly Emerson account reconciliations and journal entries. - Record annual lease entries according to ASC-842 – Leases. - Maintain and reconcile all lease-related activity including all lessee and lessor leases, management of lease-related security deposits, including the historic sites’ security deposits and rental income. - Prepare the Advertising cash receipt journal entry. - Assist the Senior Director of Accounting and Reporting with tax and other compliance matters to keep all exemptions up to date. - Assist the Senior Director of Accounting and Reporting with the timely completion of required Census reporting. - Assist with the preparation of the financial statements and footnote support file for the annual financial statement audit and the 401(a) and 403(b) Plans. - Assist with the preparation of the annual IRS Form 990 and Form 990-T including supplemental schedules). Take ownership for preparation of schedules, obtaining schedules from other staff members, and coordinating and maintaining a master template that supports how all the amounts were determined. - Assist with the preparation of split interest agreement journal entries (ie., CGA, PIFs, CRUTSs, Unitrusts, etc). - Perform research and analysis of complex accounts and processes as required. - Assist with other accounting duties and projects as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS - At least 8 years of professional level experience in the accounting field, including experience managing large or complex accounting projects and analyses in a nonprofit setting, with substantive experience in journal entries, financial reporting, and account analysis/reconciliations. Experience in a large, national level, matrixed, and geo-graphically dispersed organization preferred. - Must possess advanced skill in General Ledger reconciliation with a strong emphasis in bank reconciliation and be able to present financial information in a concise and easily comprehensible manner. - Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills including issue identification and prioritization. - Advanced project management skills. Ability to achieve results with general supervision. - Effective presentation skills. Excellent writing, spelling, grammar, and proofreading skills, as well as strong verbal communication and customer service skills. - Strong organizational skills. Excellent attention to detail. - Experience successfully managing key stakeholders and relationships. Proven ability to collaborate across departments to implement processes and achieve results. Track record of building and maintaining productive relationships with multiple stakeholders. - Must be detail-oriented, have the ability to prioritize, multi-task efficiently and respond to a high volume of ongoing requests in a timely fashion, and be able to adapt to a dynamic work environment. Ability to work effectively with frequent interruptions required. Able to handle frequently changing and/or unscheduled tasks with accuracy. - When working in the office, public contact, and ability to work successfully in close proximity to others required. When working off site, the ability to work effectively in a remote environment, maintaining productivity and communications to meet deadlines and goals, is required. - Demonstrated success in engaging culturally diverse colleagues and stakeholders. - Proven ability to continually develop skills related to use of rapidly changing technology and communications best practices. - Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel (including pivot tables) required. Familiarity with other accounting software (Unit4), including databases, a plus. - Relevant work experience and professional training in accounting or related field required. - Regular and reliable attendance required.
PAY & BENEFITSThis is a full-time, exempt level position, eligible for full benefits, including health, dental and life insurance, retirement benefits, and 3+ weeks of vacation, plus sick time and holidays.Hiring Range: $80,000 - 90,000 per year
