Job description

The Federation of Black Canadians is currently recruiting Program Mentors for its Black Entrepreneurship Program. In support of the Federation’s priority area of Economic Security, the program aims to serve over 150 Black youth and young adults throughout 2023 and 2024. Following 4 months of training, in the program, Mentees will be matched with Mentors to support their development as Black entrepreneurs. To succeed in this role, you must be comfortable facilitating mentor sessions virtually.

We are looking for candidates with strong computer skills, who are technology literate and skilled in one or more areas of Business Planning, Finance, Commercialization, Risk Management, Legislation, Technology, Brand and Business Development. Mentorship programming will focus on managing debt, technology, brand and business development, as well as stress and mental health.

We are looking for individuals who are entrepreneurs and/or business professionals to become mentors.

Responsibilities

  • Mentors will connect in person or virtually with youth in the program
  • Develop a relationship with Mentees
  • Help mentees develop personal and professional skills
  • Be a source of support and guidance for their mentee
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Attend Mentorship training sessions
  • Commit to at least 3-4 hours a week for 12 months



Requirements
  • Identify as a member of the Black community
  • Located in British Columbia
  • Prior experience as a Mentor
  • Bilingualism is an asset
  • Dependable (keeps commitments, shows up on time, follows through)
  • Adaptable (shows the ability to overcome adversity in his or her personal and/or professional life)
  • Respectful (adheres to program rules, interested in learning about the experiences of others, nonjudgmental)
  • Resilient (can handle common youth “testing behaviors” and is not particularly “rejection-sensitive”)
  • Are familiar with the topics being taught such as financial literacy, networking etc.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
