Job Overview**

The Food Safety Auditor is responsible for conducting audits in accordance with food safety and quality management systems. Auditors travel to client sites, perform inspections, determine compliance, review corrective actions, and submit their audit reports for review and certification. The Food Safety Auditor assists and works with the Senior Technical Associate and Senior Technical Manager by conducting technical reviews and providing support to meet scheme owner and accreditation requirements.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Auditing

  • Perform third party audits under multiple GFSI Schemes, In-house programs, and client specific programs
  • Perform Witness Audits and be a point of contact for existing auditors
  • Prepare and send client audit plan according to protocols
  • Book travel, hotel, and transportation according to company policy; submit expense reports
  • Adhere to all quality and code of conduct standards
  • Conduct audits using applicable checklists, forms, and tools
  • Maintain positive client relationships; respond to all client inquiries and concerns
  • Submit complete and accurate audit reports within established timelines

Program Quality and Compliance

  • Attend training to maintain qualification to conduct audits; maintain training records
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of applicable regulations and standards

Program Quality and Development

  • Assist in the development of scheme procedures, guidance, and training materials to increase quality and efficiency of auditing services and certification processes
  • Conduct technical reviews in accordance with scheme and SCS requirements

Client Support and Communication

  • Assist with technical interpretation and support program/sales staff in resolving complex technical questions
  • Maintain sense of urgency and excellence in responsiveness to matters affecting client service and satisfaction
  • Additional tasks as requested by the Director and Senior Technical Manager

Administration

  • Assist in the collection of documents as needed as part of the audit process
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of program quality documents
  • Ensure thorough client records are maintained

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g. food science, biology, agricultural science, or equivalent)
  • 2+ years of industry experience in a practical capacity
  • Second or third-party auditing experience in any food safety scheme
  • 5+ years of industry experience in a practical capacity on a farm or a technical production management role related to food crops
  • Experience with GFSI audit standards (any standards mentioned above)
  • Strong passion for food safety and sustainability
  • Fluency in English and experience that involves professional written and verbal communication
  • Strong customer service and teamwork skills
  • Initiative, good judgment, and ability to work independently under pressure in a changing environment
  • Ability to complete time-sensitive projects, and provide realistic deadlines; time management skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and on a team; responsive and adaptive
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Must be willing to travel up to 75% - mostly overnight travel throughout the US

Preferred Qualifications

  • Accredited 16 Hour HACCP training
  • Lead Auditor training
  • GFSI Lead Auditor training
  • GFSI Standard training

Working Remotely**

SCS is recruiting all open roles to be remote; allowing our employees the ability to work flexibly and allowing SCS as a company to diversify the experience and perspectives of our growing workforce. This is a home-office based role and may include travel with local, domestic, and/or international trips. Details will be clarified during the recruitment process. **

Estimated Annual Salary**

$51,000 - $71,000 **
