Position Overview:**

Koniag Management Solutions (KMS) is looking for a highly qualified Computer Systems Engineer/Architect to support our government customer located in Fort Eustis, VA. This opportunity offers the chance to work with some of the best and brightest minds in the Department of Defense (DoD) and US Industry to develop and implement Training and Education (T&E) products and support services for the Department of the Army and its Army Virtual Learning Environment (AVLE) 2.0. **

Essential Functions, Responsibilities & Duties may include, but are not limited to:**

AVLE 2.0 is a revolutionary concept that will shift the way the Army develops and delivers training and education products to the total force. AVLE 2.0 leverages new learning using technologies in courseware design and delivery to enable the execution of rigorous, relevant, and tailorable learning content at the point of need. The AVLE 2.0 provides a total Army capability that will enable a dynamic learning environment to support the Active, Reserve and Army Civilian professional workforce with products developed at the newly defined interactivity levels of 0 through 4. AVLE 2.0 provides the Army with the ability to achieve a more effective and efficient T&E environment that will establish the conditions that are vital for the preparation of mission-ready Soldiers, leaders, civilians and organizations. AVLE 2.0 provides T&E, which can be delivered anytime and anywhere, with or without an instructor, to new and varied delivery platforms. The successful candidate will provide the following:

  • Designing, developing, and implementing computer systems and infrastructure that support educational technology initiatives for Army T&E requirements.
  • Support and develop Section 508 DL for IMI Computer Managed Instruction, Mobile Learning, Serious Gaming, Simulations, and Augmented and Virtual Reality
  • Assess various technologies, tools, and platforms to determine their suitability for Army T&E purposes including evaluating learning management systems, content delivery platforms, virtual rooms, and other educational software and hardware solutions.
  • Support the planning, implementation, and maintenance of the virtual T&E infrastructure to include servers, storage, networking equipment, and cloud services. ensure scalability, reliability, and performance of the infrastructure to accommodate the needs of educational applications and services.
  • Support integration and interoperability by ensuring that the system can seamlessly integrate with existing Army systems, such as student information systems, authentication systems, and content management systems.
  • Incorporate robust security measures to protect sensitive user data, including implementing secure access controls, data encryption, and monitoring systems to safeguard user information and prevent unauthorized access.
  • Optimize the performance of T&E systems by monitoring and fine-tuning various components by identifying and resolving bottlenecks, conducting load testing, and optimizing system configurations for optimal user experience.
  • Stay up to date with emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices in computer systems engineering, human-computer interactions, accessibility standards, and immersive learning technologies by exploring emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, machine learning, virtual reality, and augmented reality to identify potential applications and propose innovative solutions.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify system requirements and specifications for AVLE 2.0
  • Develop and implement computer systems and infrastructure to support AVLE 2.0, including hardware, software, networks, and databases.
  • Ensure compliance with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) to make AVLE 2.0 accessible for users with disabilities.
  • Apply Section 508 guidelines and standards to ensure AVLE 2.0 content, including IMI (Computer Managed Instruction), mobile learning, serious gaming, simulations, and augmented and virtual reality, is accessible and compliant.
  • Integrate AVLE 2.0 with existing systems, such as learning management systems (LMS) and content management systems (CMS), ensuring seamless data exchange and interoperability.
  • Monitor and optimize the performance, security, and scalability of AVLE 2.0, implementing necessary updates, patches, and enhancements.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to AVLE 2.0, working closely with software developers, multimedia artists, and instructional designers to address system-level challenges.
  • Conduct regular system maintenance activities, including backups, system updates, and user account management.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement immersive multimedia or computer-simulated virtual or augmented reality experiences within AVLE 2.0, ensuring the learner's engagement in real-life scenarios and responding to sensory cues.
  • Provide technical support and training to users of AVLE 2.0, including administrators, instructors, and learners, to ensure effective utilization of the learning environment.

Work Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • B.S. of Computer Science (Specialization in Human Computer Interactions)
  • Minimum of five (5) years of paid experience developing successful Web Content Accessibility Guide
  • Minimum of five (5) years of paid experience with Section 508 DL for IMI Computer Managed Instruction, Mobile Learning, Serious Gaming, Simulations, and Augmented and Virtual Reality
  • Experience with Level 4 IMI - immersive multimedia or computer-simulated virtual or augmented reality, in which the learner engages in a real-life scenario responding to sensory cues is a plus.
  • Knowledge of the US Army, TRADOC or The Army Distributed Learning Program (TADLP) is a plus.

Working Environment & Conditions

This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. This position is primarily indoors, consistent with a standard office position and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. The incumbent is required to stand, walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The workload may require the incumbent to sit for extended periods of time. The incumbent must be able to read, do simple math calculations and withstand moderate amounts of stress.

The incumbent must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. **
