Job Overview**

The Carbon Offset Verification Program Manager, Forestry is responsible for the successful operation of the GHG program related to forestry and land use projects and programs.

Areas of responsibility include program operations, financial management, program quality, business development, and staff management. The Program Manager is also expected to be a credentialed practitioner who engages in a sufficient number of audits to maintain a strong working knowledge of our auditing services as well as to contribute to the profitability of the program. The Program Manager will collaborate with their colleagues within the division, including leadership, technical teams, marketing and sales. Additionally, the Program Manager is responsible for representing SCS through relevant industry meetings, tradeshows and/or standard development committees, as needed. **

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Financial and Operations Management

  • Responsible for program revenue and profitability on a quarterly and annual basis
  • Negotiate contract terms and establish pricing structure
  • Allocate resources to maximize program profitability and a beneficial work/life balance for staff
  • Develop and document procedures to ensure efficient and complaint program operation

Business Development

  • Develop and maintain relationships with key clients
  • Scope and prepare proposals for new projects
  • Represent program and promote services at trade shows, conferences and industry events
  • Identify and develop opportunities to expand services into new markets
  • Coordinate and support international business development efforts

Lead Auditor Practitioner

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of applicable protocols and standards
  • Conduct on-site and desk audits in conformance with pertinent protocols as a lead auditor or technical reviewer within established timelines
  • Draft internal guidance and materials to train staff and contractors
  • Conduct training and provide program specific technical oversight

Program Quality

  • Ensure program compliance with corporate quality system
  • Ensure consistent interpretation and application of standards
  • Maintains program quality through continual review process including internal and external audit processes
  • Oversee investigation of complaints involving accreditation body
  • Adhere to and enforce all quality and code of conduct standards

Staff Management

  • Develop staffing plan; recruit, hire and train program staff and subcontractors
  • Establish and communicate performance expectations and objectives
  • Conduct formal and informal performance reviews, provide feedback and address performance issues
  • Assign and oversee daily workflow
  • Promote a positive, collaborative and respectful work environment
  • Develop and implement systems to monitor and evaluate staff technical proficiency

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Forestry or a relevant field
  • 5 years professional experience in a related field
  • Complete fluency in English and work experience that involves professional written and verbal communication
  • Strong leadership, organization, and prioritization skills
  • Proficient with business software including Outlook, Word, Excel and Sales CRM systems
  • Strong customer service and teamwork orientation
  • Initiative, good judgment, and ability to work independently under pressure in a changing environment
  • Must have received or be willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccination by date of hire to be considered, unless precluded by local and national jurisdiction. Pursuant to local and national law--proof of vaccination required. Medical and religious accommodations will also be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience and strong knowledge within the environmental sustainability industry, specifically third party certification
  • Ability to lead an audit
  • MBA
  • International forestry/natural resource experience
  • International Travel experience
  • Quantitative skills with an emphasis on biometrics, statistics, (growth and yield) modeling, coding
  • Proficiency in ArcGIS
  • Proficiency with remote sensing applications
  • Proficiency with community engagement
  • ARB-accredited Lead Verifier for the Compliance Offset Protocol—US Forest Projects
  • California Registered Professional Forester or Certified Forester
  • Foreign Language Skills (Spanish and Portuguese are especially helpful)

Physical Requirements & Work Environment**

  • This is an office based job. Sit 6+ hours per day. Keyboarding 6+ hours per day. Must be able to speak and listen in person and on the phone.

  • Agricultural field and food facilities during audits, and auditor assessment activities

Working Remotely

SCS is recruiting all open roles to be remote; allowing our employees the ability to work flexibly and allowing SCS as a company to diversify the experience and perspectives of our growing workforce. This is a home-office based role and may include travel with local, domestic, and/or international trips. Details will be clarified during the recruitment process. **

Pay Range**

$110k to $135k Annually **
