Eagle Harbor Solutions, a Koniag Government Services company, is hiring a Systems Engineer. This position requires the new hire to be able to obtain a public trust. This is a remote opportunity.

The ideal candidate would be someone with extensive applied problem-solving knowledge for end user troubleshooting, and who is familiar with the operational tempo of regular system updating and patching schedules as well as the documentation of same. This individual is expected to work both independently and as part of a team, be adaptable to rapid change, and be self-motivated to assist in other areas where needed. Experience working in a fast-paced, operations- or mission-centered environment is preferred. **

Responsibilities:**

  • Provide coordination with the HHS Enterprise Architecture (EA) Office to collaborate the registration, alignment, and decommissioning of the technology systems and applications within ASPR’s portfolio.
  • Create and manage system ASPR secure, multiple impact level inheritable boundaries.
  • Develop and establish EA models for the ASPR technology environment.
  • Maintain a Government approved change control process to identify, record, assess and secure approval for changes to the project.
  • The contractor and the Government will follow this process to classify, prioritize, approve, or reject changes, so that implementation does not negatively impact core mission applications, functions, or live production environments.
  • Change requests need to be defined clearly, including their cost and schedule implications, to allow the Government to make appropriate decisions.
  • Assist the System Owner (SO), Business Owner (BO), and the ASPR Deputy CISO with developing POA&Ms and milestones according to NIST and HHS/OS policy guidance and keeping POAM status up-to-date;
  • Assist with reviewing, monitoring and facilitating closure of weaknesses identified during the Security Controls Assessment (SCA) or other risk identification processes.
  • Assist the SO, Data Owner (DO), and BO to maintain appropriate operational security posture

Responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing the security posture for one or more system(s) throughout the entire lifecycle; provides continuous monitoring through scheduled audits, controls testing, audit reviews, and escalates issues as needed.
  • Reviewing the implementation of IT security controls and security authorization documents and ensures the system is compliant with mandated security policies and requirements.
  • Provides technical recommendations for all Risk Assessments and Vulnerability Assessments conducted for the system or site.
  • Provides security analysis of IT activities to ensure that appropriate security measures are in place and being enforced.
  • Coordinates penetration testing or other 'red team' activities that might occur at/or traverse the system’s

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree in a Computer Science or Information Systems related field.
  • 2+ minimum years of experience assessing systems for compliance of NIST 800-53 & 53and other Federal Information Systems Management Act (FISMA), policies, protocols, and guidelines
  • 2+ minimum years of experience configuring, administrating, and supporting ActiveDirectory, Microsoft Windows 10 & Server 2012/2016, VMWare virtualization and Administration.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience with system security scanning, hardening, patching, mitigation and monitoring compliance tools for other Federal Government agencies
  • 4+ minimum years of experience assessing systems for compliance of NIST 800-53 & 53 and other Federal Information Systems Management Act (FISMA), policies, protocols, and guidelines
  • ISACA, EC-Council, and/or ISC2 Certification(s) a strong plus.

Contingencies:

  • Must be able to work in Washington, DC and occasionally visit alternate location in Frederick, MD
  • Must be willing to possible work during nights, 12-hr shifts, weekends and/or holidays from time to time during critical response times or other emergencies.
  • Must be able to work in an open and fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to serve as a member of a 24/7/365 technology support team
  • Regular teleworking IS authorized for this position during the COVID-19 pandemic. On-Site work is expected for primary duties during normal working conditions

Working Environment & Conditions

This position is primarily indoors, consistent with a standard office position and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. The incumbent is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The work load may require the incumbent to sit for extended periods of time. The incumbent must be able to read, do simple math calculations and withstand moderate amounts of stress. The incumbent must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. **
