Your missions

Director/Sr. Director, US Value, Access and Pricing

Who we are:

Agios is a biopharmaceutical company that is fueled by connections. We thrive in a supportive, fun, and flexible environment full of people empowered to bring their whole selves to work. We care deeply about our work, each other, and the patients who count on us. Our teams cultivate strong bonds with patient communities, healthcare professionals, partners and colleagues, which helps us discover, develop and deliver therapies for genetically defined diseases – and make a bigger difference in their lives. In the U.S., Agios markets a first-in-class pyruvate kinase (PK) activator for the treatment of hemolytic anemia in adults with PK deficiency. Building on the company’s leadership in the field of cellular metabolism, Agios is advancing a robust clinical pipeline of investigational medicines with active and planned programs in alpha- and beta-thalassemia, sickle cell disease, pediatric PK deficiency and MDS-associated anemia. **

The impact you will make:**

Agios Pharmaceuticals is searching for a dynamic Director/Sr. Director, US Value, Access, and Pricing to join our growing Market Access team. The Director/Sr. Director will be responsible for leading the development and execution of value, access, and pricing strategies to support patient access to our medicines in the US. This will include conducting payer research, developing pricing strategies, building payer value stories, and creating tools and materials used by the Market Access field team in their interactions with payers and prescription drug coverage decision-makers. In addition, the Director/Sr. Director will help develop educational resources on reimbursement and financial assistance to support providers and patients who utilize the myAgios™ Patient Support Services program.

Reporting to the Vice President, US Market Access & Government Affairs, the Director/Sr. Director, US Value, Access, and Pricing is a member of the Market Access leadership team and will work closely with US Marketing, Medical Affairs, HEOR, and Global Strategy colleagues to ensure goal alignment and meet corporate objectives. Strong strategy and execution skills, collaboration, communication, clinical understanding, and vendor management are essential for this role. **

What You Will Do**

  • Develop comprehensive US value and access strategy for each asset and indication in Agios’ portfolio and pipeline
  • Continuously assess US payer reactions to disease and product value messages, price points, assess value drivers, and address evidence gaps in coordination with the HEOR team
  • Create the product value story for payers, working with HEOR and the National Account Team.
  • Deliver approved payer resources to the National Account Team to communicate the product value story and improve the quality of their interactions with customers
  • Develop and lead implementation of US pricing strategies for indication expansions and new product approvals, considering market dynamics, competition and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align pricing strategies with asset strategies and long range plans
  • Support the evolution of the myAgios™ Patient Support Services program with educational resources and tools to increase patient and customer awareness and engagement
  • In collaboration with the Global Commercial Strategy team, assess US payer reaction to BD/licensing candidates (pricing expectations, value drivers, future utilization management intentions)
  • Ensure field sales team and medical science liaisons are properly trained on the benefits of the myAgios programs and/or economic resources, like dossiers and BIM models
  • Co-manage with Commercial Operations and Analytics all payer insight-gathering projects: advisory boards, round tables, and ad hoc market research
  • Plan and manage payer agency of record activities and budget

What You Bring

  • Knowledge of US payer coverage and reimbursement environment, CMS policies and OIG opinions pertaining to manufacturer access and product support services
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical channel dynamics, including distribution and specialty pharmacy
  • Ability to translate clinical data into value or economic messages
  • Strategic planning and execution skills including: positioning, branding, project management, pricing/contracting strategy, and working with agencies and vendors
  • Use insights and innovation to develop and deliver resources in a high impact and cost-effective way
  • Skilled in completing long-term projects on time and within budget
  • Able to perform in a fast-paced environment generally under little supervision, manage multiple priorities simultaneously, and communicate complex information clearly
  • Ability to foster relationships, build alignment, negotiate and collaborate with home office and field teams
  • Ability to travel to meetings, conferences, market research, and advisory boards

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree, advanced degree (MBA) preferred and a minimum of 6-8 years marketing or agency experience in biotech/pharmaceuticals, or an equivalent combination of experience and education
  • Rare genetic disease experience
  • Understanding the role of US Government Affairs in meeting corporate objectives
