SGS is the world’s leading inspection, verification, testing and certification company. SGS is recognized as the global benchmark for quality and integrity. With more than 96,000 employees, SGS operates a network of over 2,700 offices and laboratories around the world.

SGS INSPIRE, an SGS Market Intelligence division of SGS Germany is looking for a highly motivated person to join a global team of researchers and analysts on energy and fuels in the transportation sector and related topics. SGS INSPIRE is a data and information service that provides expertise in the areas of fuel quality, vehicle emissions, energy and transportation. The team provides regular written and oral information and consultations to leading global companies belonging to fuels and vehicles related industries.

Job Description

General description of the position

Senior Analyst is part of the global team of market analysts and researchers on energy and transportation in all regions of the world. Because the EU’s current and upcoming legislation on these topics is enormous and very complex, SGS Inspire is looking for a candidate who will lead the efforts to provide understanding and clarity in all content aimed at Inspire’s customers.

The Senior Analyst should follow the EU policies related to the energy transition, in particular legislation and legislative process under the Green Deal, Fit for 55 package, gas package, RePower EU, etc.

Senior Analyst is also required to monitor policy and legislative developments in the EU Member States, in particular those mirroring and implementing EU’s energy, climate change, and environmental laws.

The research and analytical work will be mainly conducted in cooperation with other team members as part of larger projects. In particular, it will require joint work with market analysts for Europe to provide a comprehensive coverage and description of the European policy and market so that the impact of the legislation on the market’s trends and dynamics is well explained and presented. In some cases, the work will be undertaken as a stand-alone project, hence own initiative and project-management skills are required from the candidate.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and perform focused research on policy and legislative developments in the EU and EU MS in the areas of energy in the transportation sectors, i.e., conventional fuels, hydrogen, power-to-liquid, renewable electricity, sustainable aviation fuels, alternative marine fuels, biobased fuels, alternative fuels and vehicles
  • Analyze above mentioned policy and legislative developments and write thorough reports on those in different formats as applied by SGS INSPIRE: news, country reports, global reports, presentations, webinars, podcasts, and answers to clients’ queries. Content varies between word-template-based reports, XML content of the website, ppt presentations, emails, etc.
  • Contribute to building extensive global datasets serving as a basis for different forms of visualisations, e.g. global maps or excel-based tables or graphs on topics such as global ethanol blends, the sulfur content in fuels, vehicle exhaust emissions standards, hydrogen initiatives;
  • Advise customers and respond to clients’ requests concerning regulations and standards in the EU and Member States
  • Draft high-quality briefings and presentations for internal stakeholders and customers regarding the results of research and analytical work
  • Represent and speak on behalf of SGS INSPIRE at conferences, workshops, webinars, online presentations, etc.
  • Contribute to the team’s ad-hoc and bespoke consulting projects
  • Build and maintain a network of contacts (mainly policymakers but also major industry stakeholders) in the EU, specifically in Brussels, to gain insight on laws, procedures, key decision makers and other stakeholders
  • Show initiative in enhancing the content prepared for customers and identify possible development directions for consulting and information services
  • Show interest in policy and market developments in other parts of the world, in particular, to better understand Europe’s position on the global scene and its influence on other regions
  • Represent the organisation externally in institutional meetings and towards other stakeholders
  • Other tasks as required by the supervisor
