First Databank (FDB) is looking for a QA Data Test Engineer who ensures the quality and reliability of our data infrastructure and data-driven applications. Validates data sources, extract data applications of transformation logic and upload data into target tables. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop, execute, and automate data testing processes, ensuring that our data assets meet the highest standards of accuracy, completeness, and consistency. Identify and research issues reported by internal and external customers. Manage defect resolution throughout the lifecycle and ensure issues are resolved prior to production. **

Primary Responsibilities:**

  • Develop and execute comprehensive data quality tests to identify anomalies, inconsistencies, and data integrity issues for new product development initiatives, product changes, policy changes, Oracle forms, and database changes.
  • Verify data accuracy, completeness, and consistency across various data sources and pipelines.
  • Create and maintain test data sets for regression testing.
  • Provide test support for any issues that require code changes or changes made directly to the database.
  • Implement and maintain automated testing framework for data validation.
  • Continuously improve and expand test coverage through automation.
  • Develop and maintain testing scripts and tools to streamline the testing process.
  • Collaborate with engineers and data analysts to define data validation rules and criteria.
  • Validate data transformations, aggregations, and calculations to ensure accuracy and reliability.
  • Identify and report data discrepancies and work with the appropriate teams to resolve them.
  • Document test cases, testing procedures, and results.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of data quality issues and resolutions.
  • Evaluate and transform documentation into test scripts as needed.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineers, project managers and other subject matter experts to understand data requirements and validation needs.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders to report on data quality findings and collaborate on improvements.
  • Schedule or attend peer reviews of test logic to ensure it has been constructed correctly.
  • Communicate with subject matter experts to research source of issues and proposed resolutions, as well as, loading and examining data, business rules, and editorial policy to determine point of failure.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform data testing on new and changed customer output files by reviewing requirements, specifications, and technical design documents and participating in design review meetings.
  • Test internal content support tool Apollo when new forms are developed, or existing functionality is altered.
  • Test Data Process Change control processes for logic and content when requested.
  • Create and support data validation scripts (DAVID) for new and existing files. Support data audit tests as needed.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar role focused on data quality and testing.
  • Proficiency in SQL for data querying and validation -strong knowledge of SQL. Joins, Union, Data Constraint, SQL commands, DML and DDL.
  • Experience with data validation tools and frameworks.
  • Strong programming skills in languages such as MS SQL, Python, Java, PHP, or XML
  • Knowledge of data modeling concepts and ETL processes.
  • Familiarity with data integration and data warehousing technologies.
  • Hands-on experience with both white box and black box testing
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to data quality.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.
  • Unix basics commands.
  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development process.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills

Knowledge, Skill and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field preferred; experience in Healthcare Industry knowledge a plus
  • 2 years of complex query creation and at least two years of performing testing activities.

In accordance with applicable law, Hearst is required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role if hired in San Francisco, CA. The reasonable estimate, $89,000-$120,000. Please note this information is specific to those hired in location. If this role is open to candidates outside of location, the salary range would be aligned to that specific location. A final decision on the successful candidate’s starting salary will be based on a number of permissible, non-discriminatory factors, including but not limited to skills and experience, training, certifications, and education.
