Who we are
SubjectToClimate (StC) is a nonprofit online connector for teachers of all subjects and grade levels to find credible, unbiased, and engaging materials on climate change. Learn more about us here.
Why we need you
We know teachers are leaders for climate change. The Teacher Taskforce works at the heart of what we do: to build a platform by teachers, for teachers.
The SEO Assistant collaborates closely with the SEO Lead to optimize our platform that empowers educators with easily accessible resources on integrating climate change into their curriculum. You need to be a white-hat SEO Assistant, and your primary duty will be to assist in enhancing the discoverability of our platform, ensuring our resources and lesson plans reach and resonate with the intended audience. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Other responsibilities:
PLEASE ENSURE TO FOLLOW APPLICATION STEPS BELOW
*Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) are strongly encouraged to apply.
*You do not need to be a current teacher. All disciplines and grade levels are welcome to apply.
*Non-formal educators outside of school settings are also encouraged to apply.
*Even if you think you are not qualified, we encourage you to submit an application.
What We Offer
Not only will you be part of an inspiring group of people from all over the U.S. and abroad, but we also offer:
If you are a dedicated individual with a passion for making a positive impact on our environment and are eager to contribute to the fight against climate change, and interested in adding a few hours a week (about 15) to the work you already do at STC, we encourage you to apply.
Application Steps
Before clicking the link to apply, please follow the below steps in order to submit your scenarios with your resume.
#1: Resume
#2: Google Doc Link with answers to questions below. Please ensure the share setting is set to “anyone with the link.”
Part A: Off-Page SEO
Scenario:
Our website is already up and running, with SEO contributing to at least 50% of organic traffic and conversions per month, especially when it’s school season in the U.S. (checked via AHREFs x Google Analytics.) In short, our On-Page strategy for the current website is currently working. Currently, we collaborate with content partners. However, we haven't fully utilized our website for outreach and link-building activities.
Off-Page SEO Questions:
#1. Assuming you join our team as an SEO assistant, which Off-Page strategies would you advocate for our website?
#2. For each strategy you propose, provide a detailed explanation of the steps you would take to secure backlinks to our site. How would you approach and strategize this process?
#3. Which tools do you usually recommend or utilize for website outreach and link-building?
#4. What's your stance on link-buying? If you're in favor, why? If you're against it, could you explain why?
Note: We've already gotten links from websites like Harvard and NYTimes with high authority. Now, our goal is to increase our website's authority in both education and climate education, and we're looking for support to achieve this.
Part B: Technical SEO
Scenario:
Our website has been steadily growing in terms of content and user engagement. While our SEO strategies have been effective, we believe there's room for improvement in the technical aspects of our SEO. It's important to note that our website isn't hosted on a CMS or a modern website builder. This means that easy plugin solutions might not be directly applicable. We need a hands-on Technical SEO assistant who can navigate and optimize our technical foundation without relying heavily on plugins.
Technical SEO Questions:
#1. Given that our website isn't on a typical CMS or website builder, how would you approach a comprehensive technical SEO audit? (Note that we have current access to AHREFs)
#2. Describe your method for identifying and resolving crawl errors or barriers preventing search engine access and indexing, especially in a non-CMS environment.
#3. Core Web Vitals have become increasingly crucial. How would you tackle issues associated with the Largest Contentful Paint (LCP), First Input Delay (FID), and Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS) in our specific scenario?
Note: Although the SEO assistant would work closely with the platform team, our unique setup demands an expert who can dive deep into technical SEO without heavily depending on plugins or traditional CMS-based solutions. We're keen on finding someone who can pinpoint and remedy challenges that might be a hindrance to our search engine performance to improve more.
