Your missions

The Role

The Project Company, CPV1 , is seeking an experienced and technically competent Electro-mechanical Assistant.

This is a role that requires an adequate knowledge based of the installation, operating and fault finding of LV (ac and dc) and MV electro-mechanical primary equipment and control gear. Your primary responsibilities will involve assisting int he inspection, operating, maintenance, supervision and safety of the infrastructure of the facility and in-field personnel.

You must have a thorough understanding of O&M practices for a renewable energy power plant from an electro-mechanical works perspective (Concentrated Photo Voltaic). Comprehensive knowledge of LV and MV switchgear, transformers and cables is essential. Prior experience with operation and maintenance of high voltage (132 kV) equipment will be useful.

The Electrical Assistant reports directly to the Team Leader.

This role is site based near Touwsrivier, Western Cape.


Job Responsibilities

General

Supports the Team Leader with:

    • control and management of spare parts.
    • developing documentation of CPV Systems on site.
    • additional ad-hoc tasks as and when required.
  • Supervisory responsibilities will be required at times.
  • Assists the electrical team with operating and maintenance.
  • Assists in the planning and scheduling of all resources required to deliver timeous execution of operation and maintenance activities. This will include parts, tools and labour required to ensure that the daily work orders are completed in a timely manner as well as in accordance with operational and maintenance procedures and guidelines.
  • Assists in ensuring that the team works safely and are complying with appropriate risk assessments and permits to work.
  • Environmental tasks , such as snake handling duties and vegetation control, will be required as and when needed.
  • Creates an inspiring team environment with an open communication culture.

Operations and Maintenance

Primary responsibilities are the operation, maintenance, co-ordination (planned, reactive and preventative) and SCADA monitoring of the overall O&M functions of the electro-mechanical system of the plant.

  • Responsible for Switching of primary plant, Low (AC and DC < 1000 V)), medium (22 kV) and High Voltage (132 kV), authorised by the power plant GMR 2.1.
  • Ensure the highest possible in-service availability of CPV Systems and other plant equipment on site to maintain highest production capacity of the plant.
  • Assists the Electro-mechanical Team with:
    • Diagnostics & repairs of CPV Systems.
    • Compilation of and implementing work schedules for the electro-mechanical personnel.
    • Ensuring that work orders are reviewed and executed, and that material and equipment required is readily available.
    • Creating maintenance schedules and switching procedures.
    • Testing of electro-mechanical plant (such insulation resistance testing, voltage ratio testing, earth electrode measurement).
    • Updating a database of equipment to record and track maintenance and repair history.
    • Report compilation of operational and maintenance activities and incidents.
  • Preparation of Risk Assessments and work permits in accordance with statutory requirements.
  • Actively participates in safety initiatives and promote safety awareness and accident prevention.


Health and Safety

  • Assists in the overall safe operations and maintenance of all electro-mechanical plant.
  • Maintains Health and Safety standards as per the Operator’s Health and Safety policies.
  • Ensures that all employees, visitors, and contractors are working in a safe manner.
  • Reports any unsafe equipment, acts, or dangerous occurrences.


Other

  • Flexibility for this role is necessary, with the ability to accommodate flexible working hours, should specific problems or business requirements dictate.

Requirements

  • Minimum N4 Certificate in electrical, or equivalent qualification
  • Registered Electrician Trade Certification
  • Prior experience with, and training for, switching of power plant apparatus ≤ 132 kV is essential (GMR 2.1 authorized)
  • Electrical training background
  • Experience with Electrical and Mechanical maintenance and repairs
  • At least three years relevant experience in the electrical trade
  • Renewable energy experience is beneficial
