Overview:

If you're looking for the stability of a profitable, growing company with the entrepreneurial spirit of a startup, we’re hiring. SageSure, a leader in catastrophe-exposed property insurance, is seeking an experienced Architect Platform Engineer to join our dynamic Platform Engineering team. This team is dedicated to designing, building, and maintaining essential platform tools and frameworks, that empower engineering teams with self-service, scalable, and efficient solutions.

You’ll play a key role in modernizing our software delivery processes and ensuring they meet the evolving needs of our engineering organization. By collaborating closely with engineering teams, you’ll help create a culture of DevOps, minimizing friction and optimizing feedback loops to ensure high-quality, fast, and autonomous software delivery.

What you’d be doing:

  • Lead the design and continuous improvement of platform tools, with a focus on scalability, reliability, and monitoring capabilities to support the needs of engineering teams. Develop and design self-service tools and frameworks to empower engineering teams, focusing on scalability, efficiency, and reusability across platforms.
  • Provide architectural oversight and guidance to engineering teams, ensuring platform capabilities are effectively integrated into workflows and aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Define, create, and maintain high-level architectural documentation and standards to ensure platform tools are well understood, extensible, and accessible across all teams.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot complex performance issues with platform tools, determining root causes, and implementing scalable solutions to improve efficiency and reliability.
  • Proactively evaluate and introduce new tools, frameworks, and architectural patterns that enhance the developer productivity and improve self-service capabilities.
  • Focus on the scalability, performance, and long-term sustainability of software delivery, ensuring efficient resource utilization and cost optimization.
  • Lead and participate in the on-call rotation, providing essential architectural guidance and support for production environments, with a focus on resilience and high availability.

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • 10+ years of experience architecting, scaling, and implementing DevOps solutions, with expertise in automation and tooling.
  • Ability to architect and document reusable, scalable solutions that empower engineering teams.
  • Proven expertise in automation, leveraging best practices and methodologies to optimize workflows, with a focus on architectural design and the seamless implementation of tools.
  • A platform-focused mindset, capable of architecting, developing, and documenting reusable patterns that empower engineering teams.
  • Deep knowledge of Kubernetes or comparable container orchestration frameworks, including its ecosystem tools (e.g., Helm, Docker, Argo Rollouts, Ingress NGINX), and an understanding of how to leverage these tools to create resilient, scalable solutions.
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD methodologies and tools (e.g., GitLab CI, Blue/Green and Canary deployments, API testing), with an emphasis on designing pipelines that are modular, scalable, and efficient.
  • Strong skills in automated scripting, including designing, coding, debugging, and maintaining scripts in Python, Bash, or Go, with an ability to establish scripting standards and best practices.
  • Experience architecting solutions on cloud platforms, preferably AWS, with a deep understanding of cloud-native architecture and best practices.
  • Strong understanding of monitoring and observability best practices, including designing solutions that provide actionable insights across distributed systems.

Highly preferred candidates also have:

  • Software development experience, particularly working with APIs in Java or Python or Go, with an ability to guide teams in building and maintaining high-quality integrations.
  • Advanced understanding of Linux systems and container runtimes, including the ability to architect solutions that leverage these systems for scalability and reliability.
  • Experience in the insurance and/or financial industry sectors, including an understanding of industry-specific challenges and compliance requirements.
