Patient Service Representative (Certified Medical Assistant – Remote)
Location: Erlanger/Lexington, Kentucky (Must Reside in or Around This Area)

Position Overview

We are seeking a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) to join our Contact Center team as a Patient Service Representative. This role is fully remote; however, candidates must reside in or around Erlanger/Lexington, Kentucky, as occasional onsite training or meetings may be required.

The Patient Service Representative serves as the first point of contact for our patients, providers, and other healthcare professionals. In this role, you will provide prompt, courteous, and accurate assistance across multiple communication channels, including phone, chat, email, and text. You will also coordinate patient care, schedule appointments, process referrals and authorizations, verify insurance information, and ensure a seamless patient experience.

Qualifications
  • Must be a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) with current certification from one of the following organizations:
    • NCMA (National Certified Medical Assistant)
    • NRCMA (Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant)
    • AMT (American Medical Technologists)
    • NHA (National Healthcareer Association)
    • AAMA (American Association of Medical Assistants)
  • Prior experience in a healthcare setting or contact center is preferred.
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively and professionally.
  • Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) and scheduling systems is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining a high level of accuracy and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities
  • Patient Support & Coordination: Assist patients with appointment scheduling, referrals, authorizations, and insurance verification.
  • First Contact Resolution: Identify and address patient needs efficiently, ensuring timely access to care.
  • Medical Assistance Tasks: Support care coordination within the Medical Assistant scope, including processing medication refills and relaying test results.
  • Multichannel Communication: Provide assistance via phone, chat, email, and text to patients, providers, and healthcare staff.
  • Compliance & Documentation: Follow department guidelines, clinical protocols, and access policies while maintaining accurate records in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.

Qualifications:
Required Education

(Applicable for CHI Leadership Job Levels from Supervisor through President)

  • Completion of an Accredited Medical Assistant Program
Required Licensure and Certifications
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification from one of the following organizations:
    • American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
    • National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification issued by American Medical Technologists (AMT)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proficiency with computer systems, including web-based applications
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a patient-focused healthcare environment
  • 1 year of experience in a high-volume, multichannel contact center
