Job description

Title: Security Analyst 

Location: USA/Remote 

Reports to: Chief Information Security Officer 

FLSA Classification: Exempt  

Full-Time  

Salary Range: $85,000 to $120,000 

* Starting pay varies based on location and experience, in compliance with specific state wage regulations. Competitive rates tailored to your geography and expertise.  

 

 

Position Overview: The Security Analyst will safeguard the organization's IT infrastructure, data, and systems from cybersecurity threats. This individual will proactively identify vulnerabilities, monitor networks for security breaches, and collaborate with teams to implement security solutions. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of security practices, analytical skills, and the ability to respond effectively to incidents. 

 

Key Responsibilities: Participates and completes tasks associated with implementing systems and network security technologies; executes testing plans; coordinates and prepares reporting of data security events and incidents; provides system and network architecture support; provides technical support to business and technology associates. Provides trouble resolution on complex issues 

 

Responsibilities and Duties: 

  • Threat Detection & Monitoring: Monitor network traffic and security systems to detect and respond to potential security threats or breaches.
  • Incident Response: Respond to security incidents, analyze the scope, and provide mitigation strategies, including documentation and root cause analysis.
  • Vulnerability Management: Conduct regular vulnerability assessments and penetration tests to identify and address weaknesses in the network and systems.
  • Security Audits & Compliance: Ensure IT security policies comply with regulatory requirements and standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, etc.).
  • Security Solution Implementation: Help implement and manage firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and other security tools.
  • Collaboration & Training: Work with internal teams to ensure security best practices are followed. Provide security awareness training to employees to minimize risk.
  • Reporting: Prepare regular reports on security incidents, vulnerabilities, and system health to senior management.

 

Skills and Competencies: 

  1. Cybersecurity Knowledge: In-depth understanding of cybersecurity principles, threat analysis, firewalls, encryption technologies, and secure coding practices.
  2. Incident Management: Strong skills in incident detection, containment, and resolution, along with the ability to manage crisis situations effectively.
  3. Analytical Thinking: Ability to analyze security incidents, identify root causes, and propose effective solutions.
  4. Regulatory Compliance Awareness: Knowledge of compliance requirements, including GDPR, HIPAA, PCI-DSS, etc.
  5. Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for reporting security incidents and training staff on security protocols.

 

Requirements/Qualifications:  

 

  • Requires a BA/BS degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field of study and a minimum of 3 years of experience in a support and operations or design and engineering role; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.
  • Familiarity with security tools and technologies such as SIEM, firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPNs, and vulnerability scanners.
  • Desired certifications include CompTIA Security+, CISSP, CISM, or CEH (Certified Ethical Hacker).
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to think critically under pressure and manage high-stress situations effectively.
