Job description

This is a remote position.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 9AM-6PM London time with 1-hour unpaid break

Role Overview:

We are looking for an experienced Financial Controller to oversee the financial operations of the business, ensuring accurate financial reporting, effective financial controls, and compliance with regulatory requirements. As a key member of the management team, the Financial Controller will provide strategic financial insights to support business growth and decision-making. You will have strong values and work ethic, with a high degree of autonomy, reporting directly into the Managing Director.

Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Management & Reporting:

Oversee the day-to-day financial operations, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.

Own the month end process and prepare monthly financial statements and management reports.

Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, tax regulations, and financial policies.

Lead the preparation of statutory accounts and coordinate with external accounting firms.

Manage cash flows to ensure financial stability.

2. Budgeting & Forecasting:

Lead the annual budgeting & forecasting processes.
Provide financial analysis to support strategic decision-making.
Monitor financial performance and identify opportunities for improvement.

3. Internal Controls & Compliance:

Implement and maintain robust financial controls and policies to safeguard company assets and enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Ensure compliance with tax obligations across the 3 entities (VAT/Sales tax, corporation tax, payroll taxes, etc.).

4. Business Partnering & Strategy:

Act as a key financial advisor to senior management and department heads.
Provide insights and recommendations to support business growth and operational efficiency.
Work closely with other teams to ensure financial considerations are embedded in decision-making.

5. Team Leadership & Human Resources:

Manage and develop a small finance team (2 members)
Oversee payroll, onboarding and offboarding, and performance review processes

Requirements

Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with relevant experience.
Proven experience as a Financial Controller or similar finance leadership role.
Strong technical accounting skills with knowledge of UK GAAP/IFRS.
Hands-on experience in financial reporting, budgeting, and cash flow management.
Proficiency in accounting software (Netsuite preferably) and advanced Excel skills.
Experience managing and developing a small finance team.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
Experience within Retail with an omnichannel strategy is a plus.
