Position Details:

Summary of Duties:

The Extension Coordinator Specialist is responsible for co-leading the development and implementation of the statewide Washington State University (WSU) SNAP-Ed program. This position includes organizing, implementing, coordinating and monitoring program workplans and budgets at a state level. The Extension Coordinator Specialist works closely with the SNAP-Ed Assistant Director SNAP-Ed Local Implementing Agency leads, regional and statewide community partners, SNAP-Ed participants, and funder to develop the program and ensure that activities meet the requirements of federal guidance for SNAP-Ed. This position supervises other regional and local SNAP-Ed staff positions, as appropriate.
 

This is a temporary position expected to end on 9/30/2025. Renewal is dependent on satisfactory performance and annual background check, the need for Extension to complete the project, and/or if additional funding is secured to extend employment.


Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant extension program discipline and three (3) years of related experience in the program specialty. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. Demonstrated teaching experience and evaluating community projects and experience in preparing educational materials for low literacy and diverse populations.

  • Related program experience includes public health, nutrition, education, urban or regional planning, community development.

  • Ability to travel regionally, statewide, and occasionally out of state.

  • Ability to work a flexible, yet structured schedule with occasional nights and weekends.

  • While using a private or WSU-owned vehicle for official business, must have current automobile liability insurance (meeting requirements described in RCW 46.30.020 and RCW 46.29.090).

  • Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver’s license and meet requirements in accordance with SPPM 7.10 and departmental driving standards. 


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree with three (3) years related experience.

  • Experience working with diverse communities using a strengths-based approach, showing sensitivity to those who experience poverty, racism, marginalization, and trauma.

  • Strong commitment to social and environmental justice and working toward improving food and social systems.

  • Experience supervising staff and creating a positive and supportive work environment.

  • Experience assessing community needs and evaluating community projects.

  • Proficiency with computer software applications such as email and Microsoft Office.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, especially in the development of innovative projects.

  • Demonstrated experience working successfully as a team member.

Additional Information:


This is a full time (100% FTE) position. Overtime eligibility will be determined based on final salary placement. 

This is a temporary position expected to end 9/30/2025. Renewal is dependent on the need for extension and/or if additional funding is secured to extend employment. Funding has been renewed successfully for several years and we expect funding to continue to be renewed.

Monthly Salary: $4,869.40 - $7,304.10 | Commensurate with experience and qualifications

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.
