Job description

Sr MongoDB Database Architect — Remote

The successful candidate will join the Alternative Database Technologies team within Data Management Services (DMS). This team is responsible for database infrastructure architecture and operational support for various cloud-based and on-premise database platforms. The role requires a deep understanding of MongoDB, alongside experience with NoSQL and SQL database platforms in OLTP and OLAP environments. The ideal candidate will be highly skilled in database technologies, capable of managing medium to large infrastructure projects, and proficient in automation and DevSecOps.

Responsibilities:

• Provision and manage MongoDB instances, ensuring performance, security, and availability.
• Configure encryption at rest and in transit.
• Handle common database procedures, including upgrades, backups, recoveries, and migrations.
• Perform upgrades to MongoDB environments and automate repeatable installation and maintenance tasks.
• Lead medium to large infrastructure projects such as MongoDB 7.0 upgrades and MongoDB Atlas migrations.
• Maintain up-to-date documentation and procedures for MongoDB and other supported database platforms.
• Work closely with team members, technical leads, management, and application support teams.
• Define, document, and implement consistent database standards and procedures.
• Evaluate database-related products for functionality and performance improvements.
• Support project development following documented standards, policies, and procedures.
• Stay informed on new and emerging database technologies.

What you will need to succeed:

• University degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• 5+ years of advanced administration experience with MongoDB.
• 5+ years of experience working with multiple database platforms, including NoSQL, Relational, Data Warehouse, OLAP, and OLTP.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with MongoDB query and command functionality (CRUD operations, Aggregation framework, etc.).
• Experience managing and optimizing production database systems.
• Proficiency in schema design, index design, and query performance tuning.
• Hands-on experience with log analysis, performance tuning, and query optimization.
• Strong scripting skills in Shell, Python, or Perl for Linux/Unix environments.
• Experience with database automation and DevSecOps tools (AWS CDK, GitHub Actions, Ansible, SQL).
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to lead technical discussions and manage workloads independently.
• Security Clearance: Enhanced Reliability Clearance (ERC) required

Nice to Have

• MongoDB Certified DBA or Developer certification.
• Experience with MongoDB Atlas or MongoDB Ops Manager.
• Experience with additional NoSQL technologies such as DynamoDB, Neptune, or Redshift.
• Familiarity with AWS services, including CloudWatch, CloudTrail, AWS Config, AWS Backup, and AWS DMS.
• Experience with DevOps or Agile methodologies.
• Knowledge of database backup and disaster recovery strategies.
• Experience working in an AWS cloud environment.
