About the Job

Altera is seeking a Planning System Applications Architect, a subject matter expert who plays a pivotal role in customer engagements and core product planning for Silicon, Tools, and IP. This role is crucial in:

  • Customer Solutions & Technical Engagement – Working with Sales and key customers to define winning FPGA solutions, optimize architectures, and provide expert technical support.

  • Product Strategy & Roadmap– Capturing industry trends, customer feedback, and technology shifts to influence the definition of future Altera FPGA products.

The ideal candidate will navigate complex customer architectures, balancing performance, power, and scalability while relaying insights to internal teams to shape next-generation FPGA solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Technical & Customer Engagement

  • Serve as a trusted FPGA and Embedded Systems expert with deep knowledge of the ARM, RISC-V, and Soft IP processor market, including competitive landscape and industry trends.

  • Collaborate with Sales and customers to identify FPGA-based solutions, evaluate technical trade-offs, and develop and deliver technical presentations and product roadmaps.

  • Work closely with customers to replicate and troubleshoot design issues, driving escalations to resolution.

Product Strategy & Definition

  • Develop and maintain detailed product requirements and change requests that shape FPGA.

  • Translate customer feedback, market trends, and technology shifts into product requirements, ensuring FPGA solutions align with future industry demands.

  • Assist in defining new product concepts and business cases, ensuring alignment with Altera’s roadmap.

  • Monitor competitive developments, distilling insights into actionable product strategies.

Developer Enablement & Ecosystem

  • Define and enhance the customer journey, ensuring seamless adoption of new FPGA features.

  • Develop design examples, user guides, and tools that simplify FPGA implementation for customers.

  • Collaborate with internal engineering teams to enhance software tools and IP portfolios, ensuring a robust FPGA development ecosystem.

Salary Range

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor within the US market. Actual salary may vary based on a number of factors including job location, job-related knowledge, skills, experiences, trainings, etc. We also offer incentive opportunities that reward employees based on individual and company performance.

What We Want to See

We are seeking someone with a BS/MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field with 15+ years of combined experience in one or more of the following:

  • FPGA design using Quartus, Vivado, or equivalent.

  • Deep understanding of FPGA design flows, HDL development, and system architecture.

  • Hands-on experience in Embedded Software Development, including:

    • C/C++ programming for bare-metal, Linux, or embedded OS environments.

    • Device driver and middleware development.

    • Linux-based software and drivers

  • Experience designing complex FPGA-based systems with embedded peripherals such as: Ethernet MAC, USB, CAN, DMA, I2C, UART, SPI, QSPI Flash, SD/MMC/eMMC controllers

  • Strong customer-facing skills, capable of building trust with Tier-1 customer architects and engineering teams.

  • Willingness to travel up to 1-2 months per year for customer and technical engagements.
