Background
The African Climate Foundation (ACF) is the first and only African-led climate change re-granting organisation on the continent. Through a combination of grant-making, fellowships, transformational research, technical assistance, coalition building, and advocacy, the ACF seeks to support interventions at the nexus of climate change and development that have the greatest potential to deliver long-term socio-economic transformation and inclusive development.
Purpose
Reporting to the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Manager, the Data Analyst is expected to harness the power of data to support the effective implementation of the ACF Strategic Framework (2025-2030) through the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) Framework. This role will focus predominantly on data validation, aggregation analysis and visualisation to ensure data-driven decision-making and the optimisation of ACF’s strategic objectives.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Responsible for data validating, aggregating, analysing, and visualising quantitative and qualitative data.
- Review full lifecycle analysis to include requirements, activities, and design for the organisation’s internal grant management system.
- Generate reports and insights from programmes' performance to inform decision-making, learning, and strategy optimisation.
- Ensure data integrity, efficiency, and effectiveness through validation and quality control mechanisms.
- Review data collection formats from grantees and other stakeholders to ensure consistency, accuracy, and usability for data analysis.
- Review, develop and implement data validation, aggregation, and visualisation tools to enhance statistical efficiency and reporting quality.
- Retrieve, integrate, and manage data from various sources within ACF’s information systems while maintaining adherence to data privacy compliance.
- Validate and clean data by reviewing ACF’s strategic documentation, including the Strategic Framework (2025-2030), programmes’ strategies, MEL Framework, and other existing records e.g., funders’ indicators.
- Input and migrate data and information, as well as learnings while making changes to existing data and information.
- Generate high-quality analytical reports, incorporating data visualisation, on key programme outcomes and trends.
- Support data-driven decision-making by synthesising and summarising operational and programmatic insights.
- Assist in collating organisational learnings across units to ensure shared insights inform broader strategy and planning.
- Enhance internal data systems to facilitate efficient data storage, retrieval, and usability.
- Provide additional support as required in data management and analysis.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- A degree in Data Science, Statistics, Data Management, or a related field of study.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience focused on data validation, data analysis, data visualisation and data aggregation.
- Experience in climate change, public policy, international development, or social justice within philanthropic, NGO, coalition, legislative, or advocacy communities in Africa is preferred.
- Proven track record in implementing internal organisational data systems for MEL, grants management, or equivalent.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to manage and interpret complex quantitative and qualitative data from multiple sources.
- Proficiency in database applications, analytics, and reporting tools, including spreadsheet software (e.g., advanced Excel, Stata, SPSS, R) and data visualisation platforms (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
- Ability to present complex data findings and analytical insights to diverse audiences across different mediums.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Adaptability in a fast-paced and evolving work environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
Start date: Position available immediately.
Contract duration: 12 months
Location: ACF’s operational hub is in Cape Town, South Africa. Remote working will be considered, with a preference for candidates based in Kenya.
