Position Overview


In this senior role at Lean Tech, you will be the cornerstone of our SQL Server environment hosted in AWS, ensuring its performance, reliability, and security. You will execute this by owning database management processes and approvals, optimizing database performance, and collaborating closely with developers to design efficient schemas and optimize SQL execution. This role requires significant interaction with multidisciplinary teams in an agile environment, where your expertise will drive strategic and tactical database projects. You will adhere to compliance frameworks with an emphasis on SOC2, and regularly update documentation using tools like Confluence and Word. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the maintenance and optimization of AWS-hosted SQL Server databases to ensure peak performance and reliability.

  • Perform advanced SQL Server performance tuning, query optimization, and indexing strategies to improve database efficiency.
  • Manage comprehensive database backup, restore, and disaster recovery plans, ensuring business continuity.
  • Implement and maintain strong database security controls, including access management, encryption, and compliance with SOC2 frameworks.
  • Regularly update and patch SQL Server environments with the latest security updates and AWS optimizations.
  • Plan and execute database capacity planning and scalability initiatives to support future growth.
  • Set up and utilize automation tools to effectively monitor database health, performance metrics, and alerting systems.
  • Maintain accurate database documentation using tools like Confluence and Word, ensuring all records are up-to-date.
  • Actively participate in cross-functional projects, providing database expertise and solutions to enhance overall project outcomes.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a SQL Server Database
  • Administrator/Engineer, preferably in a cloud-based SaaS environment.
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL Server, with a focus on performance tuning, query optimization, and indexing strategies.
  • Extensive experience in AWS-hosted SQL Server environments, particularly with EC2-based deployments.
  • Strong expertise in T-SQL, including stored procedures, triggers, and database migrations.
  • Advanced level in database security, including access controls, encryption, and SOC2 compliance frameworks.
  • Hands-on experience with managing database backups, restores, and developing disaster recovery plans.
  • Proficient in collaborating with developers for database design and optimizing SQL execution.
  • Familiarity with automation tools for database maintenance and monitoring.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication skills to convey complex database concepts to developers and stakeholders.
  • Experience with Confluence and Word for documentation purposes.
  • Knowledge of agile methodologies for collaboration with developers.
