About the Role

We’re looking for an experienced Automation Engineer to build and scale automation at Interlaced. This foundational role will drive high-impact automations for our team and clients, integrating platforms and data to optimize operations.

You will design, develop, and maintain automation workflows, integrations, and scripts to improve efficiency, eliminate manual effort, and enable new client services.

This role requires a curious, independent process thinker who can collaborate cross-functionally, lead automation initiatives, and define best practices as we scale.

Key Responsibilities

Internal Process Automation & Integrations

  • Identify, design, build, and optimize automation solutions to streamline internal IT operations, business processes, and client-facing workflows.
  • Develop and maintain API-based integrations between SaaS tools, including MSP-specific platforms (e.g., Google Workspace, Slack, Okta, Addigy, Jamf, Intune, ConnectWise).
  • Write and maintain scripts in Python, PowerShell, or JavaScript to automate processes, manipulate data, and enhance system integrations.
  • Utilize automation platforms (Rewst, Make.com, Zapier) to build scalable, low-code workflows.
  • Leverage Jinja templating or similar templating frameworks to enable dynamic content generation and structured automation configurations.
  • Leverage AI-driven automation for real-time decision-making.
  • Build and maintain connectivity and transformation pipelines for clean, structured, usable data across different systems.
  • Conduct testing, validation, and monitoring to ensure automation accuracy and reliability.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with finance, operations, growth and service teams to understand the need and impact of automation to existing processes.

Client-Facing Automation & Revenue Opportunities

  • Work closely with leadership and clients to define client needs and automation opportunities.
  • Develop, package, and support sellable automation solutions for clients.
  • Enhance workflows using AI models (OpenAI, Google AI, Microsoft AI) for predictive analytics and anomaly detection.
  • Maintain and scale automation implementations for long-term reliability and efficiency.

Technical & Operational Leadership

  • Build and own the automation function, creating the best practices, operational models, and documentation for scalable automation initiatives.
  • Stay ahead of automation and AI trends to inform tooling and best practices.
  • Collaborate with leadership to define the automation strategy, balancing cost, scalability, and business impact.
  • Leverage IT automation tools like Rewst while creating documentation, training and upskilling for team members.
  • Think like a business owner building for scalability, optimizing costs, and ensuring that automation efforts deliver measurable impact.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in automation projects, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Strong scripting skills in Python or PowerShell for automation development.
  • Expertise in API integrations (REST APIs, webhooks, JSON) and automation platforms (Rewst, Zapier, Power Automate).
  • System integration experience across CRM, ERP, PSA, and other business tools.
  • Proficiency in data transformations & integrations, ensuring structured, clean data for workflows.
  • Familiarity with IAM tools (Okta, Azure AD, Google Workspace) and authentication best practices.
  • Experience with AI-driven automation (decision-making, NLP, predictive analytics).
  • Strong problem-solving skills, ability to work independently, and a proactive, self-driven approach to learning.
  • Process-oriented mindset with experience in documenting workflows, automation designs, and best practices.
  • Excellent communication skills, including technical writing and stakeholder presentations.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Passion for innovation - excited to push automation boundaries within an MSP environment.

Nice to Have

  • Understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) for automation deployment and scalability.
