What You'll Do
The Senior Product Solution Engineer (PSE) - Technical Lead position supports our sales organization in achieving a technical win as part of the sales cycle with our prospects, partners, and customers. Specifically, the role's main function is to act as a Technical Subject Matter Expert in the sales process around Avalara product functionality, transaction tax scenarios, and connectivity capabilities to prospects' systems. You will have an active relationship with Avalara's internal product and content teams to ensure the customer's voice is part of our ongoing product development. You can work with companies all over the world as they address complex challenges in their business. You will report to the Director, Product Solution Engineering and can work remote.
What Your Responsibilities Will Be
- To act as a Subject Matter expert for 15+ Avalara solutions that cover a range of prospect needs. The list of Avalara solutions covers topics such as global tax determination, exemption certificate management, global returns compliance, e-invoicing, duty determination, and HS code classification. Avalara understands that no applicant will be proficient in all topics, so a good knowledge with willingness to participate in professional development activities to stay current on industry knowledge will allow great success in the role.
- You will be a Technical Subject Matter Expert on a variety of technologies that would be categorized as ERP, CRM, eComm, and POS solutions. Added value would be knowledge with some of our most widely adopted connectors such as Netsuite, MS D365, Sage, Acumatica, Epicor, Shopify, Adobe Commerce, and Salesforce. As part of the sales process, it is very common that a PSE runs a demonstration in a demo environment of one of the aforementioned solutions.
- To act as a Tech Subject Matter Expert for prospects and customers that choose to build their own integration with API to Avalara solutions. Experience working with APIs will be critical for success in this role.
- Work with Avalara marketing teams as a featured speaker at events. These events can either be virtual webinars or in person events like tradeshows / tax conferences / customer education events.
- Work with product teams to define new product requirements, functionality, and requested customer improvements. The PSE role is uniquely positioned to understand how our products and connectors align to what prospects/customers need. This knowledge is valued at Avalara and feedback to our product organization is critical for future success.
- You will have stay up to date with industry trends.
What You'll Need to be Successful
- Deep expertise around tax scenarios and associated requirements.
- You would be able to explain a complex tax scenario in a simple and relatable way for audiences of all backgrounds.
- Deep configuration and operational knowledge of Avalara Solutions (principally Avatax, ECM, and MRS). This knowledge is critical to not only demonstrate our products but also be able to create Proof of Concepts as part of the sales process.
- Experience with how different systems (ERP, CRM, POS, and eComm) not only operate but are used by prospects/customers.
- Deep experience working with APIs. Experience with Postman is a benefit.
- You will conduct product demonstrations (mostly virtual) and public speaking on webinars or at conferences. The ability to make complex topics relatable and engaging will allow great success in this role.
- Expertise as a contributor in previous roles.
- 12+ years in a similar tax or technology field
