We’re seeking a Manager, Indirect Tax to develop and lead our compliance roadmap. Reporting to the Director of Tax, you'll own and oversee the Indirect Tax function for Fullscript. Leading a small but mighty team, you'll enhance and optimize our tax related processes to ensure the utmost accuracy as we build for the future.
What You'll Do:Sales & Use Tax Compliance:Manage and oversee all sales and use tax filings for multiple US states and Canadian provinces.Maintain and monitor sales and use tax liability accounts; ensure timely reconciliations.Provide monthly US GAAP-compliant journal entries and related reports to the accounting team.Oversee marketplace facilitator and reseller compliance, including exemption certificate management.Stay current on legislative changes affecting sales and use tax; communicate updates and impacts to internal stakeholders.
Annual State Filing Management:Coordinate and oversee annual state and local tax filings, including property, gross receipts, and other SALT-related returns.Develop a comprehensive calendar for all SALT filing obligations to ensure no deadlines are missed.Review and approve tax workpapers, returns, and calculations prepared by direct report and/or external providers.
Audit & Controversy Management:Serve as the primary point of contact for state and local tax audits, inquiries, and examinations.Collect and organize necessary documentation, research technical issues, and develop strategies to minimize exposures.Negotiate resolutions with tax authorities where necessary.
Planning & Advisory:Proactively identify opportunities for process improvements, tax automation, and cost savings in the SALT function.Advise on the tax implications of new business initiatives, product launches, and expansions across North America.Collaborate with the Director of Tax to develop and execute SALT planning strategies aligned with overall business objectives.
Financial Reporting:Support the budgeting process by forecasting state and local tax expenses and analyzing variances.Collaborate with Finance to ensure accurate tax accruals and proper reporting in financial statements.Identify opportunities for cost savings, improved efficiency, and automation in the SALT function.
Team Management & Leadership:Supervise one direct report, providing day-to-day guidance, training, and professional development.Foster a collaborative environment that encourages continuous learning and improvement.Promote cross-functional communication and knowledge-sharing with the broader finance and accounting teams.
Compliance & Risk Management:Maintain and update internal controls and systems related to SALT processes; ensure compliance where applicable.Conduct periodic internal reviews to identify any SALT risk areas and recommend corrective actions.Document policies and procedures to maintain strong governance and oversight.What You Bring to the Table:CPA, CA, or Master’s in Taxation preferred.5+ years of relevant state and local tax experience, ideally within a public accounting firm or a corporate tax department.Demonstrated expertise in sales and use tax compliance and audits.Experience managing annual state filing processes for multiple jurisdictions.Strong knowledge of US state and local tax regulations; familiarity with Canadian tax rules is a plus.Proficiency with tax compliance software (e.g., Vertex, Avalara, OneSource) and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite).Prior experience within an online marketplace/eCommerce environment.Familiarity with Netsuite and strong MS Excel or Gsheet skills.Demonstrated success in building and improving processes.You’re extremely organized.Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal; including, the ability to explain highly complex subject matter in simple terms.Why You'll Love Fullscript:Market competitive compensation package including equity 401K matching (within US)//RRSP matching (within CAD)Flexible PTO policy Flexible benefits package and additional perksEmployee discount on Fullscript catalog of products for family & friendsAbility to Work Wherever You Work Well*Why Fullscript?
