The Opportunity:
We are looking for a Labour Relations Specialist who is passionate about their work and acts as a strategic employer advocate. This position is an integral role within the Labour Relations and broader Human Resources team and will act as an important conduit between management, colleagues, and unions.
What you’ll do:
Provide practical guidance, training, and support to leaders on managing in a unionized environment
Investigate formal and informal disputes and provide well-reasoned recommendations based on best practices and legal research
Support with workplace investigations and performance management activities
Foster positive and productive relationships between employees, management, and union representatives
Advise on a range of human resources and labour relations matters in a manner compliant with collective agreements and legislative requirements, demonstrating sound judgement and a keen awareness of organizational impact
Assist in the preparation of collective bargaining; provide support as required to chief spokesperson and bargaining team including research, analysis, proposal creation, costing, and records management
Work collaboratively with cross-functional partners within the Human Resources department and other departments for corporate-wide initiatives and projects
Conduct analysis on metrics relating to workforce planning, compensation trends, bargaining trends, and other research as assigned
Administer collective agreements in conjunction with operations leaders and partners within the Human Resources team
Who you are:
Highly organized, detail-oriented individual who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced, multi-union, multi-site environment
Experienced in interpreting and administering collective agreements, legislative requirements, and company policies
Experienced in handling grievances; conducting research, making recommendations, and negotiating settlements
Strong working knowledge of labour relations concepts, principles, and best practices
Open-minded creative problem solver, able to synthesize large amounts of information into practical solutions and recommendations that are supportive of business objectives and goals
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to work effectively with various stakeholders and act as a team player
Experienced in using Microsoft Office and HRIS systems in support of employee and labour relations purposes (Word, Excel, PowerPoint; Dayforce preferred)
Completion of a post-secondary program in Labour Relations or an equivalent combination of experience and education
A minimum of 4 years' experience working in Human Resources/Labour Relations
