Position Overview


Join Lean Tech as a Mid+ to Senior Spreadsheet Add-In Developer, working remotely to design, develop, and deploy Office 365, desktop Excel, and Google Sheets add-ins. Utilize your advanced expertise in JavaScript, TypeScript, VBA, and the Office Add-ins platform to create efficient and secure integrations. Implement authentication and authorization mechanisms using Azure AD and
OAuth to ensure optimal performance and data security. You will be responsible for crafting intuitive user interfaces and optimizing data interaction within large datasets across different platforms.

 Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers, designers, and backend engineers, to refine user experiences and document solutions. As part of Lean Tech’s powerful tech

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop an Office 365 Excel add-in with a user-friendly UI (Excel Ribbon). 
  • Implement secure authentication and authorization using Azure AD.
  • Enable connectivity to an Azure SQL data warehouse.
  • Allow users to query and load datasets into Excel with filtering capabilities.
  • Develop a Refresh Data button to manually trigger the update of data.
  • Create modal dialogs to enable users to reference values from fields in the
    query.
  • Adapt Office 365 Excel add-in for desktop installations (Windows & Mac).
  • Ensure feature parity with the Office 365 version.
  • Optimize performance for large dataset retrieval.
  • Develop a Google Sheets add-on with the same functionality as the Excel versions.
  • Implement Google OAuth authentication.
  • Ensure seamless data querying and retrieval from Azure SQL.
  • Develop an intuitive UI consistent with Google Sheets' interface.
  • Ensure feature parity with the Office 365 version.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in developing Office Add-ins using the Office JavaScript, API, Office Add-ins platform, or VBA.
  • Experience with FP & A (Financial Planning & Analysis) process and ERP systems.
  • Experience with Google Apps Script and Google Workspace Add-ons for Google Sheets integration.
  • Intermediate knowledge and experience with Azure SQL databases, including writing  optimized SQL queries.
  • Familiarity with authentication and authorization mechanisms such as OAuth and Azure AD at an intermediate level.
  • Knowledge of Excel Object Models and Google Sheets API at an intermediate level.
  • Experience with REST APIs and web services at an intermediate level.
  • Working knowledge of Docker, MySQL/Postgres, Redis, AWS services, and infrastructure management tools such as Terraform and Ansible is beneficial.

Nice to Have Skills

  • Familiarity with deployment and publishing processes for Office Add-ins and Google  Workspace Add-ons.
  • Experience with Power Query and advanced Excel automation.
  • Background in data engineering, business intelligence (BI), or analytics.
  • Knowledge of Agile, Jira, and Scrum methodologies.
  • Proficiency in utilizing JIRA for project tracking and management.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
