Senior Medical Science Liaison (Senior MSL), Australia

Serve as a field-based scientific expert on disease state concepts, and Vertex products, both current (cystic fibrosis) and in development.  Senior MSL is an experienced MSL with a proven success in building and maintaining external and internal stakeholder relationships that deliver medical value, enables partnership opportunities, and advances the quality use of medicines. Senior MSL builds reputation and visibility of Vertex, at the country level, with the medical community through the provision of high-quality medical information, education, and collaboration on medical activities/projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Interact with the medical community by serving as an educational resource to healthcare providers on disease state concepts, including providing effective presentations to groups, and participating in scientific engagements, tailoring discussions to meet customers’ specific needs
  • Respond to unsolicited requests for information on clinical data and Vertex products
  • Serve as a disease-state expert and resource, and communicate actionable insights from field interactions to internal stakeholders
  • Communicate scientific information in an accurate, fair and balanced manner, in a variety of settings, including medical education meetings, internal meetings, individual and group discussions, while strengthening clinical value of our products
  • Maintain high standard of integrity and professionalism in the medical community, including sharing of scientific data in full compliance with company and local policies
  • Serve as a liaison between key corporate functional areas and healthcare providers who express interest in conducting investigator-initiated research, to facilitate review and consideration of research proposals
  • Responsible for developing customer engagement plans, and executing medical plans with impact, while advancing quality use of medicines
  • Attain actionable insights and communicates effectively and appropriately with internal stakeholders to inform medical strategy
  • Engage in MSL International and Global Teams’ activities/initiatives, incl. support at medical conferences
  • Support cross-functional teams to navigate complex local health care environments
  • Support Regional Site Advocate in the implementation of clinical trial activities
  • Facilitate Managed Access Program requests, and Investigator Initiated Study requests

Minimum Qualifications to be successful:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a pharmaceutical MSL (or equivalent industry role)
  • Advanced biomedical/sciences/medical degree (PhD, MD, PharmD, Nursing, Allied Health)
  • Cystic Fibrosis experience preferred; otherwise experience in pulmonary diseases, paediatrics, experience in orphan disease setting
  • Strong communication skills in delivering tailored scientific information in a variety of settings, including the ability to simplify complex science to meet audiences’ needs
  • Proven ability to build strong external and internal partnerships through effective communication, influencing skills, and collaborative networking
  • Ability to set and complete high impact goals within allocated timeframes; ability to initiate, plan and complete projects
  • Strong self-motivation and curiosity; ability to identify issues and create solutions; ‘seek to understand’ mindset
  • Ability to work cross-functionally within a multi-cultural team, demonstrating accountability, and leading by example
  • Understanding government and industry guidelines, regulations, laws, etc. for appropriate interactions with healthcare providers
  • Ability to comply to different sets of compliance rules, both national and company wide
