About The Role

We are currently recruiting a Senior Technical Communications Officer to join our Transmission Services Team. This role can be based anywhere within Essential Energy’s northern operational footprint in NSW (including the Northern Rivers, New England and Mid North Coast regions).

As a Senior Technical Communications Officer, you will be responsible for a wide range of tasks relating to the construction and maintenance of our communications network. This means you will be working across our diverse footprint in regional and rural NSW and parts of southern QLD.

You will be required to travel and work remotely to construct and maintain our communication network. This involves connecting our business with radio frequency systems, fibre optics, ethernet and industrial networking equipment as well as supporting infrastructure including DC and solar power systems, and remote radio sites.

Key responsibilities

  • Be responsible for the overall installation, acceptance testing, commissioning and maintenance of mobile radio, microwave radio, fibre optic, data, telephony and SCADA communication systems to specified service levels and agreements.
  • Take responsibility for integrating new technology and systems into existing infrastructure and ensure programs are developed for maintenance and condition monitoring of mobile radio, microwave radio, data, telephony, fibre optic and SCADA communication systems.
  • Be accountable for the analytical evaluation of systems and network faults and undertake remediation work to ensure ongoing serviceability.
  • Strategically assist senior management in the review and preparation of recommendation reports for existing and future communication asset infrastructure needs for current sites, conditions and any increases in network performance requirements.

As Senior Technical Communications Officer you will possess excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to make appropriate decisions in compliance with company policies, procedures and best practice.

  • Proven skill and experience in the installation, maintenance and fault rectification of communications equipment and systems.

Required Qualifications/Skills

  • Demonstrated experience in a similar communications role in a large geographically diverse environment and/or Diploma of Telecommunications Network Engineering
  • Experience in installing, commissioning, maintaining, and repairing of infrastructure including fibre optic, mobile radio, microwave radio, data, telephony, communications cabling, and SCADA communication systems
  • Analytical and report preparation experience and knowledge to undertake reviews of existing infrastructure and integration requirements for future business and operational needs
  • ACMA Open registered cabler with the competencies: Structured, Optical-fibre cable, Co-axial cable
  • Ability to safely work at heights – including climbing communications towers
