Role Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced and proactive Legal Counsel to join their dynamic team. In this role, you will provide critical legal support across various aspects of their operations, including payment processing, compliance, partnerships, and regulatory engagement. Your expertise will help shape their legal framework as they expand into new geographies and enhance their product offerings.
Responsibilities
Customer Communication and Policy Drafting
Draft customer communication and support all legal aspects of existing and new wallet/payment processing features.
Collaborate with Regulatory and Data Privacy teams on legal aspects of digital wallets and online payments.
Create ad-hoc policies and procedures for Compliance and Risk departments.
Partnership and Vendor Relations
Negotiate agreements for alternative payment methods, acquirers, and banks.
Manage onboarding of new partners and maintain relationships with VISA and MasterCard.
Support embedded finance initiatives, assisting business teams in acquiring new opportunities with crypto exchanges and other partners.
Regulatory Compliance
Act as the lead support lawyer for the Banking Solutions Business Unit, negotiating agreements and building legal structures for Account Information Service Provider (AISP) and Payment Initiation Service Provider (PISP) services.
Conduct research on legal frameworks and regulatory requirements for operating crypto businesses in new regions, including licensing, marketing, and regulator communications.
Provide support for cross-border remittance services, including new feature exploration and regulatory communication.
Contract Management and Documentation
Draft and amend online terms and conditions and oversee the annual roadmap for new wallet features.
Review procurement and strategic sourcing documents, including statements of work and purchase orders.
Draft non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) and provide guidance on legal queries related to e-money, digital wallets, and payment processing.
Legal Operations
Manage legal activities in the UK, including intercompany agreements, external legal partnerships, and relationships with authorities.
Deliver legal education and training to internal teams.
Provide legal support for projects such as licence applications, customer migrations, and fee adjustments.
Requirements
Proven experience in the EMI UK environment, with a strong understanding of relevant regulations, such as PSD2 and European Banking Authority guidelines.
Expertise in payment processing, digital wallets, and e-money legal frameworks.
Experience negotiating contracts with payment institutions, acquirers, banks, and regulatory authorities.
Strong analytical and research skills, particularly in emerging markets and regulatory landscapes for crypto and cross-border payments.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Legal education and the ability to deliver training for non-legal teams.
