Your Role
As a Lead Cost Estimator, You Are Responsible For
Review project specifications, drawings, and documentation to understand the scope and requirements of civil construction projects.
Conduct detailed cost analyses, considering materials, labor, equipment, and other project-related expenses.
Perform accurate quantity takeoffs to determine the required materials and labor for various project components.
Communicate with vendors and subcontractors to obtain quotes and pricing information.
Compile all cost information to prepare precise and competitive project estimates.
Assist in developing project budgets and provide input on cost-saving measures.
Collaborate with the bidding team to prepare and submit bid proposals to clients.
Recommend value engineering options to optimize project costs without compromising quality.
Track and update project costs throughout the construction process.
Identify and assess potential risks that may impact project costs.
Collaborate with project managers and other stakeholders to ensure accurate and comprehensive project estimates.
Responsible for assessing and preparing detailed cost estimates for construction,
Monitoring of estimating inbox.
Reviewing and coordinating tender documentation.
Producing accurate take-offs.
Estimate checking and putting together final quotations.
Assisting management with project forecasting.
Receives a full set of plans for the purpose of providing a quotation for a particular trade, eg concrete.
Take charge of the detailed take off is carried out where quantities, etc are compiled.
Based on the take off, a quotation is then conceived using a contractor specific schedule of rates.
Issues quotation to the contractor ready for submission to the builder.
Qualifications and Experience:
At least 5-7 years or more experience as a construction estimator in the residential construction industry with at least 12-24 months background for Australian construction industry
Ability to provide a broad range of trade estimates, bill of quantities, quotations, rates, schedules, etc.
Ability to read and interpret plans, engineering documentation, reports, schedules, make assumptions, etc to confidently provide an estimate/ take off for a specific trade (this could be any trade such as concrete, carpentry, roofing, plaster, flooring, external wall cladding, tiling & waterproofing, painting, etc)
Preparation of a scope of works for any particular trade
Understanding of Australian residential construction industry, trades and technical knowledge
Good communication skills both written and verbal
Proficiency in utilizing any relevant software to conduct works
Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.
Ability to work autonomously without supervision
Time management skills and record keeping.
Open to learning new software as technology advances.
Flexibility to adapt to fast-paced environment
Ability to prioritise and complete work within set deadlines
Ability to work independently and within a team
A pro-active, can-do attitude
