SUMMARY: Reporting to a Commercial Credit Review Group Manager, the Credit Review Officer conducts independent, objective and timely assessments of the condition of commercial and/or retail borrowers and loan portfolios or other credit risk exposure and credit risk management practices through the identification, evaluation, measurement and reporting of the level and type of credit risk and the effectiveness of portfolio oversight. The position may be responsible for scoping, planning, conducting and documenting activities, drafting reports, and providing guidance and support to management and peers. A CRO is expected to maintain a high level of communication during all activities and e.g., may lead update meetings with senior leaders, prepare and socialize reports and Risk Issues, monitor and report on associated Action Plans, and prepare for and lead introductory and/or exit meetings. CROs have responsibility for examination as well as monitoring activities and are expected to meet or exceed production standards (quantity and quality), monitor assigned portfolio(s), and communicate effectively within Credit Review as well as with line of business partners or other third parties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties and special projects may be assigned.
Analyze and review credit files to determine the accuracy of assigned credit risk ratings. Review may include analysis of the borrower's financial statements or other information, evaluation of the source(s) of repayment and the potential for default, reviewing financial statement and/or collateral documentation, and determination of compliance with the bank's lending policies/procedures and laws and regulations.
Evaluate adequacy of and adherence to policies and procedures and sound banking practices.
Identify and review credit weaknesses in loans and/or portfolios reviewed, including specialized or complex loans
Independently recognize market, industry and portfolio trends and their impact.
Identify and communicate emerging and existing portfolio risks on a frequent and timely basis to key stakeholders. Keep abreast of management strategies, trends, strengths and risks of assigned portfolios. Evaluate and report on assigned portfolios on a periodic basis by reviewing and discussing portfolio metrics with line management.
Efficiently develop, monitor and validate Risk Issues to ensure appropriate Management Action Plan execution, timely remediation, and understanding of all outstanding risks within the portfolio.
Conduct examination pre-planning tasks. These tasks include, but are not limited to, conducting management interviews, analyzing portfolio data, partnering with the Credit Review Data Analytics team, developing loan review samples and examination resource budgets, writing pre-exam memorandums and conducting examination kickoff meetings with the examination team.
Assign and manage Credit Review Officer (CRO) workflow, ensuring fieldwork is completed with high quality and according to examination plans and budgeted timelines.
Perform quality control reviews and ensure examination work papers, including electronic documentation, are comprehensive, complete and fully supportive of examination findings and conclusions. Adhere to and champion Credit Review quality controls.
Consolidate examination findings, perform root cause risk analysis and develop formal recommendations to remediate risk concerns.
Plan and lead line of business update and exit meetings.
Effectively communicate examination findings and conclusions with management. Consider feedback and develop formal, clear and concise written Risk Issues where required. As appropriate, draft Credit Review Reports.
Understanding of common structured Investment products (CLO/CMBS/RMBS) is beneficial, but not required
Assist Credit Review leadership with training needs including, but not limited to, mentoring CROs, driving product quality and consistency and best practices.
Make recommendations to improve examination or other Credit Review processes.
May participate and/or lead assigned special projects as needed.
Adheres to and complies with applicable, federal and state laws, regulations and guidance, including those related to anti-money laundering (i.e. Bank Secrecy Act, US PATRIOT Act, etc.).
Adheres to Bank policies and procedures and completes required training.
Identifies and reports suspicious activity.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance coaching; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
EDUCATION
Bachelor's Degree and significant and relevant experience as a commercial loan officer, underwriter, credit reviewer, or similar or closely aligned function required Master's Degree preferred

10+ Years Credit and credit analysis experience and have been involved in the analysis of complex corporate lending, commercial real estate, or related fields required, including specialized industries and products (eg Healthcare, Non-Depository Financial Institutions, leveraged lending) required or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and certification/designation required.
Formal credit and audit principles training preferred preferred
Prior credit review, bank examiner, complex underwriting, or problem loan workout experience preferred preferred
