Fisher Phillips, a premier international labor and employment law firm, is seeking highly organized and experienced EPLI Project Manager to assist with the development, delivery, and oversight of various legal project and matter management initiatives related to our clients and matters covered by Employment Practices Liability Insurance.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in project management and insurance and have experience working with clients and partners to coordinate tasks, set milestones, and track progress to ensure timely and successful project completion. The candidate will demonstrate the ability to create and understand financial reporting, communicate the levers that affect the profitability of legal work, and develop strong working relationships and credibility with stakeholders at all levels.
This position can be performed on a fully remote or hybrid basis from any of the firm’s 38 U.S. offices and reports to the Director of Legal Project Management.
Key Responsibilities
Work with the Director of Legal Project Management, the Director of Strategic Pricing, the Chief Legal Operations Officer, and various EPLI relationship partners and key stakeholders across the firm to develop and implement the Firm’s strategy, goals, and various initiatives related to legal work for EPLI carriers and clients, to include:
- Act as a resource manager for the firm’s EPLI business, assign new matters, manage workflows and staffing levels, and manage other related processes and procedures for the business.
- Work with Partners, Knowledge Management, and other internal departments to provide meaningful reporting to clients as appropriate via extranets and other firm technology tools.
- Serve as another key point of contact for internal teams, insurance carriers, and external legal operations groups for all issues related to rate setups, legal billing, reporting, outside counsel guidelines, etc. Facilitate communication and collaboration among all parties involved.
- Work with the Director of Strategic Pricing to monitor EPLI billing rates and terms, answer questions regarding appropriate rates and guidelines, and provide ongoing support for rate negotiations.
- Serve as a resource and project manager for initiatives such as internal client portfolios, financial and matter/portfolio reporting, EPLI carrier team sites and internal webpages, and compliance with Outside Counsel Guidelines.
- Work with the Director of Legal Project Management to create matter budget templates, build out and implement budget-to-actual reporting and technology, monitor budget-to-actual performance, and intervene when appropriate to develop solutions.
- Monitor leverage, staffing, and other financial KPIs for key clients, develop progress reports and watch lists, and work with the Director of Legal Project Management on ways to effectuate needed improvements.
- Communicate financial information to non-financial personnel effectively and translate that information into clear and concise action plans for improved efficiency and profitability.
- Utilize matter-management and other technologies to keep projects on time and on budget.
- Work with the Director of Legal Project Management to educate attorneys, practice groups, paralegals, and other timekeepers on effective matter management and financial levers, including staffing, leverage, and efficiency.
- Monitor write-downs and write-offs on client work, investigate root causes, coordinate with the billing department and other key stakeholders, and pursue opportunities to mitigate future losses through education and process improvement.
- Provide support and input on the firm’s appeals processes on EPLI invoices to reduce write-offs and increase revenue capture.
- Work with the EPLI relationship partners, Director of Legal Project Management, Director of Strategic Pricing, and Director of Professional Development to promote better revenue capture initiatives, including improved time narratives and proper task code usage, and to develop and deliver training to timekeepers related to same.
- Ensure data capture in support of the firm’s ability to provide industry leading reporting and insight to clients, with a focus on the Firm’s EPLI business.
- Partner with the various other departments and business units within the Firm to provide project management support, including with the Firm’s Litigation Paralegal Manager, Data Analytics Team, eDiscovery, and the Knowledge Management/Innovation team.

- Ability and flexibility to travel to Firm offices and events, as needed.
Education, Experience & Certification Requirements
- An undergraduate degree required.
- Minimum of five years in a law firm environment, including three years in legal project management, is preferred. Previous experience in a large law firm strongly preferred.
- Previous experience working directly with attorneys on matter and portfolio-level financial levers and profitability.
- Previous experience with law firm billing systems and financial reporting.
- Demonstrated success establishing, developing, and managing legal project management initiatives in a national, multi-office environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel, and ability to independently produce quality communications and presentations.
The salary for this position will start at $140,000. Actual base pay within this range will be determined by several components, including but not limited to, location, relevant experience, internal equity, skills, qualifications, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
