As we continue to grow, Rancho BioSciences is seeking a Biological Data Scientist to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for analyzing biological and clinical data, developing Conceptual and Logical data models, and optimizing ETL pipelines to support seamless data integration. What You'll Do

As a Biological Data Scientist, you will:

  • Collaborate with a team of data scientists to support clinical and biomarker data integration projects.
  • Build and improve data wrangling and database deployment pipelines in R/Posit.
  • Utilize version control systems (GitHub/GitLab) to document and communicate workflow designs.
  • Assess and enhance ETL pipelines for optimal integration into proposed models.
  • Maintain clear documentation of data sources, use cases, and modeling decisions.
  • Implement best practices, including controlled vocabulary from ontologies for data dictionaries.
  • Partner with researchers and stakeholders to understand and address data needs.
  • Ensure data quality and integrity while troubleshooting and resolving data-related issues.
  • Contribute to cross-functional projects and improve data engineering processes.


What We're Looking For

Must-Haves:

  • MD or PhD in Biology or related field. Bachelor's and Master's degree will be considered with 3-5 years relevant experience.
  • Experience with clinical data standards such as SDTM and ADaM.
  • Experience coding in R/Posit and familiarity with Bioconductor classes/packages.
  • Hands-on experience with version control systems (GitHub/GitLab).
  • Understanding of data standards, semantics, terminologies, ontologies, and modern data governance techniques.
  • Expertise in data wrangling and harmonization.
  • Ability to work independently, communicate findings through reports and presentations, and collaborate with client teams.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.

  • Strong stakeholder management and communication abilities.
  • Ability to translate project requirements into business and technical solutions.

Nice-to-Haves:

  • Familiarity with the FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) data guiding principles
  • Experience with workflow management systems (e.g., Snakemake).
