Job Description

Job Title: Army Strategic Advisor

Department: Military Outreach

Reports To: Director, Military Outreach

FLSA Status: Exempt

Hours: Monday through Thursday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (CT) and Friday 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM (CT) (extended hours when requested)

Location: Remote

Job Summary

  • The Army Strategic Advisor utilizes their active, service-connected network to support University goals by linking University leaders and outreach representatives with key military personnel. This aims to build relationships that evolve into strategic partnerships. They also establish and sustain connections with influential Army figures at both the military installation and Pentagon levels. This position reports directly to the Director of Military Outreach.


Essential Job Tasks Additional Duties May Be Assigned

  • Establishes and manages high-value relationships with key Army personnel at the military installation and Pentagon levels.
  • Develops, builds, and nurtures strategic relationships with key military organizations.
  • Represents the University by traveling, coordinating, and attending events as necessary, for the purpose of developing and maintaining productive relations with Military entities to enhance the organization's goals.
  • Supports senior leadership team by coordinating meetings with military officials.
  • Identifies and supports opportunities to advance the University’s image and reputation with targeted audiences through multiple channels and engagement opportunities, including public and industry events and speaking opportunities.
  • May be required to act as a university spokesperson and must ensure that the University maintains strong relationships with all military officials.
  • Performs other duties of a comparable level as assigned.
  • Identifies and supports opportunities to advance the University’s image and reputation with targeted audiences through multiple channels and engagement opportunities, including public and industry events and speaking opportunities.
  • Execute all travel arrangements necessary; maintain and reconcile credit card expense receipts and reports.
  • Expected to come onsite as directed by leadership.
  • Performs other duties of a comparable level as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Knowledge

  • English Language - Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language
  • including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Computer - Advanced MS Word, PowerPoint and Outlook required, Intermediate Excel and project management software.
  • Leadership - Highly developed people management, relationship building, and leadership skills with the demonstrated ability to develop and support a professional, service, and continuous improvement focused workplace culture.


Skills

  • Critical Thinking - Ability to make difficult and complex decisions with good judgment and with acute sensitivity to the reputation of the University. Must be confident, organized, and an accomplished problem solver.
  • Time Management - The ability to handle complex multiple assignments at the same time and with competing demands and deadlines while maintaining a calm demeanor is essential.
  • Analytical Skills - Ability to quickly assimilate information, analyze data and be able to provide strategic advice concerning budget implications, proposals, and planning documents.
  • Interpersonal skills - The ability to communicate and interact with government and military officials to effectively build relationships.
  • Ethical Standards - Ability to manage confidential and sensitive materials and situations with the utmost discretion. The highest ethical standards, tact, and diplomacy are essential.
  • Communication/Negotiation Skills - Advanced mediation, communication, and relationship management skills including an ability to influence, negotiate, and build productive working relationships with key stakeholders are essential to achieve the required outcomes.

  • Written Comprehension - The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing.
  • Written Expression - The ability to communicate information and ideas in writing so others will understand.
  • Oral Comprehension - The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
  • Oral Expression - Strong verbal communication skills along with organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities are a needed for success in this position. Must be confident with public speaking.

  • Decision Making - The ability to make difficult and complex decisions with good judgement and with acute sensitivity to the political environment and to the reputation of the University.


Education And/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent education and experience as prior Army.
  • Prior Army experience is required; retired Army is preferred.
  • Ability to be bonded and insured under the company's insurance carrier's requirements.


Equipment Used

  • Office equipment includes computers, telephones, and printers.
  • Software used to include Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Blackboard, and internal database software.
  • Secure and reliable internet is required for this position.


Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The position is remote and should have an established office with secure and reliable internet. The position requires travel to various destinations in support of the University.
