Call for Members of Professional Board
The Professional Board is responsible for the regulations governing individual Professional Membership and registration with Engineering Council. It also oversees the work of the Branch Management Committee and other delegated bodies of the Board.
New members are appointed to the Board to fill vacancies and to ensure the work of the Board remains relevant and representative of our members’ interests. This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals to enhance their personal and professional development while helping to shape the direction of the PEI.
Duties
Members of Professional Board contribute to the Professional Boards oversight of all matters concerning professional (and non-corporate) members of the Institute, and drive forward the development of the Institute’s work through various delegated bodies. Member led Working Groups are currently driving forward the production of the new Institute Journal (Welding and Joining Matters), supporting the establishment of a new Branch in Australia and drafting new qualifications for apprentices.
The purpose of the Professional Board is to: Oversee all matters concerning Professional and Non-Corporate members of the Institute. Liaise with the Executive Board on all aspects of relative to Professional Membership of the Welding Institute. Make decisions as delegated by the Institute’s Council and in accordance with the Articles, relating to all matters concerning professional membership affairs including subscriptions.
When and where
Professional Board meets twice a year in the spring and autumn, as a hybrid meeting (i.e. online and in person).
Requirements
Applicants must be current Professional members of The Welding Institute and meet any identified requirement of the vacancies being filled

Number of volunteers required
Maximum 6 professional members; comprising maximum of 3 who must be Chartered Engineers registered with the Engineering Council, and a maximum of 3 as branch representatives. We currently have representation in, South West, East Midlands, London & Sheffield branches, we welcome applications from the other branch locations at this moment in time.
Specific skills
Involvement in apprenticeship programmes and training is desirable
