We are seeking a motivated, experienced business reporter to cover behavioral health news and developments for Behavioral Health Business (BHB), the leading source of news, insights and analysis for industry executives. The perfect candidate for this role is somebody who enjoys hunting for stories, networking with sources, breaking news and writing exclusive, enterprising deep dives.


Working within the BHB team, you will help shape our coverage in the areas of mental health, addiction treatment, autism services, eating disorders and more – all of which are only becoming more important in American society. You’ll monitor the beat, cultivate key relationships, chase stories and collaborate with your team.


In addition to writing news and enterprising stories, you’ll play an important role in the development of BHB’s podcast and our in-person events, including INVEST, VALUE and the Autism Investor Summit. The reporter will occasionally (~once a quarter) work outside the BHB team with colleagues on sponsored articles, white papers and other custom content. The reporter will also support our production of webinars, both internal and client-driven, while playing an important role in growing BHB’s sub-brands, Addiction Treatment Business and Autism Business News.


BHB is read by the top decision-makers at publicly traded and privately held companies delivering behavioral health services. Readers also include industry investors, payers, health system leaders, technology partners and other stakeholders.

To be successful in this role, you’ll need to be organized, creative and self-driven. You’ll need to be comfortable with deadlines and have a track record for filing clean copy. You’ll need to maintain an ever-curious mindset, asking all the right questions that help you become an expert in our space.


Perks of this job include the ability to work remotely. The job includes moderate levels of travel in the form of 1-2 external conferences per year plus 3-4 internal events. 

  

Specific Responsibilities Include:

  • Collaborating with team members to report, write and publish copy daily
  • Chasing down scoops and breaking news before other news outlets
  • Conceptualizing, researching, writing and editing content for industry audiences
  • Developing industry sources for stories and our events
  • Supporting the editorial team on special projects (including podcast production and event planning)
  • Attending industry conferences to establish and maintain contacts
  • Assisting with content distribution through email campaigns and other channels 
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English or related field preferred, but not required
  • 2+ years of reporting/editing experience
  • B2B experience is preferred, but not required
  • Ability to multitask, take new assignments in stride and learn something new each day
  • Desire to use new technology to its fullest
  • Demonstrated research and writing skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience using Wordpress, Mailchimp and/or Airtable is a plus
