Primary Purpose of Position:  Perform duties to provide daily tactical support to the Partners Health Management pharmacy team in coordinating work with the Clinical Teams, Care Management, Community Pharmacies, Clinical Pharmacist(s) and Senior Director of Pharmacy Services in the coordination and maintenance of the pharmacy program teamwork output for care management medication support. 


Role and Responsibilities: 

    Work collaboratively with the member care team (care managers, pharmacists, etc.) to provide timely patient specific medication information when requested

    Document all patient, care team member and provider interactions in Internet-based care management system per organizational and NCQA process and guideline requirements

    Support medication reconciliation process for all Partners’ staff

    Assist Partners’ pharmacy and care management with new hire orientation and general staff education on Partners’ pharmacy medication management processes and documentation in internet-based electronic health record

    Assist Partners’ Health Management Team members with educating community pharmacists and providers on the health plan’s pharmacy benefit, clinical policies, and administrative processes via website postings, focused/targeted outreach efforts, blast faxing or other methods of communication

    Report complaints and grievances/complaints related to the pharmacy provider network to the Senior Director of Pharmacy for follow-up action as determined 

    Assist with the pharmacy drug utilization review (DUR) and reporting/analytics process as an ex-officio member of Partners DUR/Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee

    Assist with members’ inquiries related to the formulary/preferred drug list (PDL) process as requested

    Prepare requested pharmacy analytics reports using the internet-based electronic health record, Reports Manager, HBI, or PBM reporting software for provider, network pharmacist or other Partners team member review after approval by Senior Director of Pharmacy or Clinical Pharmacist

    Assist in other administrative duties of department; perform other tasks as required/needed/requested

    Provide cross-coverage for Pharmacy Tech-PBM Liaison as required/needed/requested


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

    Knowledge in pharmacy practices and procedures-including understanding of state and Federal laws related to pharmacy practice, healthcare/medical terminology, medication names/general uses

    Experience with Microsoft Word required, other Microsoft suite of programs considered essential. Experience with Excel or other spreadsheet analytics software is required.

    Must be well organized, have demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication skills, and proficiency in managing high stress situations with grace

    Ability to identify problems including complex multi-layered issues and determine potential solutions, both independently and as team member, using critical thinking skills

    Demonstrated excellence in customer service skills


Education/Experience Required:  High school diploma or equivalent.  Five plus (5+) years of pharmacy experience, 2 years of which must have been in a managed care or healthcare environment in a significant administrative functional role.

Education/Experience Preferred:  Bachelor’s degree in business or healthcare related field preferred.  Medicare and/or Medicaid experience preferred.

Licensure/Certification Requirements:   Current registration with NC State Board of Pharmacy as Pharmacy Technician or eligible and registered within 30 days of hire; current/active National Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) (via PTCB, ExCPT or other certification body accepted by NC Board of Pharmacy).
