The Antitrust Paralegal provides practice specific legal support for the Antitrust case teams. This requires experience conducting research, managing deadlines and competing workflows and demands.  Will support attorneys in a wide range of complex legal projects and tasks, primarily as relates to all phases of the antitrust process. 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Preparing and filing Hart-Scott-Rodino Forms with the Federal Trade Commission and the Department of Justice
  • Coordinating information sharing across multinational competition filings
  • Assisting attorneys in analyzing transactions for reportability under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Act and foreign competition regimes
  • Conduct factual and legal research, compiling results in an organized manner
  • Tracking the status of filings and expected clearance dates
  • Prepares court filings, including proofreading, cite-checking, and compilation of declarations, exhibits & appendices, ToAs
  • Performs electronic filing in various courts and agencies
  • Maintain case calendars with firm docketing software 
  • Manage/prepare communications and document transmission with outside counsel
  • Assist with court filings including e-filing, editing, cite checking, preparing exhibits and supporting documents
  • Assist with complex discovery projects including, but not limited to, document review and production, deposition prep and privilege logs
  • Interface with court/agency staff, other law firms, and vendors
  • Provide necessary support during trial/hearing preparation
  • Perform computer database input and retrieval with an emphasis on proficiency with e-discovery platforms including but not limited to Opus and Relativity
  • Other duties as assigned

Education, Experience, and Skills Required:

  • BA/BS degree required
  • Minimum 5 or more years of prior work experience as a regulatory paralegal focused on antitrust law, either at a law firm or at an antitrust agency
  • Experience with preparing and organizing information for HSR filings is a must
  • Available to work overtime as required, even on short notice.  Travel may also be required as necessary.  
  • Previous trial experience preferred, but not required
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written (including editing and proofing) 
  • Effective time management skills, with the ability to handle a variety of tasks simultaneously and manage multiple projects while prioritizing assignments
  • Ability to build rapport with attorneys, professional staff, and vendors
  • Strong computer skills, including web-based research and proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and various document management tools. Ability to learn and use new software quickly.
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently but within a team environment
  • Exceptional critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Familiarity with or willing to learn applicable governmental agency filing and practice procedures (DOJ, FTC) supporting antitrust practice

Position Details

This is a full-time, benefits eligible, non-exempt level position. Final rate of pay will be commensurate with the incumbent’s experience, with a targeted hiring range of $44.00 – $54.00 per hour (the upper range reserved for highly qualified applicants). This position is currently available in our DC and NY office location only and relocation is not provided for this role.
