Provides patient care under the direction of a physician and registered nurse. Assures safe care at all times and upholds the commitment to care for each patient as a sacred trust. Obtains/records vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, and weight). Updates vital signs per established routines. Monitors patient's respiratory status and initiates oxygen therapy and treatments per protocol and as ordered by physician. Performs oral, nasal and ET tube suctioning. In resuscitative situations, performs duties as ordered under the direction and supervision of a physician, to include: administration of approved medications and appropriate documentation in the patient's medical record. Performs additional skills which may include, but not limited to: phlebotomy, IV and interosseous initiation and maintenance, medication administration, intubation, and maintenance, 12-lead ECG, waived laboratory testing per until competency. Initiates cardiac monitoring; demonstrates ability to detect dysrhythmias and notifies registered nurse/physician. Administers approved medications as ordered by the provider/designee. Demonstrates continued competence in caring for individuals based upon age-specific needs utilizing developmental perspective. Applies orthopedic appliances including but not limited to: extremity splinting, clavicular, straps, cervical collars, ace wraps, ankle air splints, knee immobilizers, slings, and simple splints. Sizes crutches and teaches crutch walking. Assists in C-spine stabilization/immobilization, placing patient on backboard while maintaining cervical alignment. Assists in monitoring patients receiving sedation. Demonstrates safe operation of physiologic monitoring equipment, appliances and equipment found in hospitals and follows procedures for reporting and correcting an unsafe situation. Assists in application/removal of restraints as needed. Seeks consultation/collaboration for complex issues or when unsure, utilizing resources appropriately. Assist in providing basic bedside care and administer treatments under the direct supervision of the physician or RN , anticipating patient needs and responding accordingly as evidenced by satisfaction surveys and individual reports. Assist in initiating care to stabilize patient and assist in managing life support needs by collaborating with physician and clinical staff. Accurately and concisely documents services provided within the medical record in a thorough, timely manner. Utilize appropriate knowledge and documented competency in aseptic technique, universal precautions, and infection control. Report adverse treatments or medications in accordance with current policies and procedures. Collect laboratory samples and perform lab testing in accordance with COLA and CLIA regulations and established policies and procedures. Demonstrate ability to perform laboratory quality controls and assessments, and routine daily, weekly, monthly and periodic maintenance and function according to Laboratory Policy and Procedure. Maintains confidentiality of all hospital and patient information as required by facility policy and HIPPA laws. Ensure proper supplies, appropriate medical equipment and medications are available for patient care and per levels meet facility needs. Prepare patient meals. Maintains clean work area, facility, equipment and break room. Maintains dress and appearance according to policy. Attends and participates in all applicable facility meetings, training and development workshops. Performs all other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Paramedic Kansas State License. Current BLS and ACLS required. Current PALS preferred. 1 year required as a Paramedic and 3 years preferred.
