We are seeking a Senior Commercial Manager, Advertising and Sponsorship, to join our Business Development and Commercial Success team. In this pivotal role, you will drive the cohesive advertising and content engagement strategy to achieve commercial growth, helping the Audience Solutions team deliver on strategic goals. You will be instrumental in shaping our advertising and sponsorship capabilities while staying ahead of industry trends and evolving expectations in the STM (Scientific, Technical, and Medical) space.
This role is responsible for managing revenue streams from paid advertising across print, email, and digital media and from sponsorship of content engagement initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the global advertising ecosystem, exceptional communication skills, demonstratable business acumen, and experience in digital advertising technologies and strategies.
How you will make an impact:
- Develop and execute a near- and long-term strategic plan for advertising and sponsorship that drives incremental business value, including both direct and indirect sales.
- Own and manage the programmatic advertising strategy.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders, including Ad Ops, technology teams, and potential customers, to shape advertising capabilities across publishing platforms.
- Stay ahead of advertising industry trends, translating these insights to the STM industry.
- Lead cross-functional teams by setting priorities and providing both strategic and tactical vision.
- Establish, monitor, and report on KPIs to measure the success of the advertising strategy.
- Support the Ad Sales and Product Marketing teams to maximise revenue generation while effectively communicating ad product capabilities.
- Act as a strategic partner and influencer, driving solutions that meet the needs of publishers, partners, and corporate sales.
We are looking for people who have:
- 5+ years’ experience as a manager in the advertising industry or in product ownership, with demonstrable expertise in advertising strategy.
- Significant experience within a corporate environment, ideally in publishing or the digital marketing space.
- Strong knowledge of digital advertising (e.g., behavioural, contextual, email, native), programmatic advertising, and technologies like ad servers, CDPs, DMPs, and CRMs.
- Analytical skills, with experience in managing reporting tools and delivering actionable insights.
- A proactive mindset, with a willingness to learn, adapt, and deliver in a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to manage internal and external stakeholders and foster collaborative solutions.
- Knowledge of the publishing industry, research environments, or information services is a plus.
