What you will be doing in the role of VP of Community Health
The Vice President, Community Health develops Komen’s strategic objectives for improving breast cancer outcomes through patient care services, community outreach, and health care system improvement initiatives that support Komen’s strategic imperative to achieve breast heath equity.
The VP will oversee a diverse team in developing and deploying high quality programs and services and will work to position the organization for future success by identifying new opportunities for partnership and revenue generation.
What you will bring to the table
Inspirational Leadership
- Serve as a subject matter expert for public health care models, concepts, and theories that contribute to improved breast health outcomes and achievement of health equity through community interventions.
- Understand the unique community health needs and the attributes of the populations served to drive development of programs and services.
- Develop, monitor and measure departmental strategy and annual plans to achieve goals assuring that the department’s goals are met within budget.
- Provide visionary leadership for Community Health initiatives, advancing collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement across cross-functional teams to achieve organizational objectives.
- Champion scientific rigor, accountability, integrity and transparency.
Program Design and Implementation
- Lead the creation and execution of community health programs supporting access to and the quality improvement of health care ecosystems.
- Oversee the Susan G. Komen Patient Care Center and its suite of services including the breast care helpline, patient navigation, financial assistance program, and other programs and services provided directly to patients and their caregivers.
- Oversee the development and execution of Komen’s Patient Navigator training program.
- Collaborate with the Education and Marketing/Communications teams to develop innovative outreach programs aligned with patient needs, organization objectives, and industry trends.
- Build and advance relationships with leading national and international organizations, community groups, healthcare providers and other stakeholders to eliminate barriers to care for and achieve optimal outcomes.
- Conduct comprehensive assessments and market research to identify opportunities for enhancement or new capabilities.
- Develop and implement key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure program effectiveness and efficiency in collaboration with the evaluation team and identify opportunities to improve program effectiveness based on data-driven insights.
Thought Leadership
- Serve as spokesperson for Komen, presenting to various internal and external stakeholders, including the media, corporate partners, patients, elected officials, etc., and proactively seek and secure influential speaking engagements.
- Represent Komen in national-level workgroups or advisory groups.
- Engage with foundations, corporations, and individual funders in partnership with the Development Division to help secure additional revenue opportunities to fuel our mission
- Partner with the Marketing and Communications department to author commentaries, blogs, other communications to encourage thoughtful dialogue and maintain Komen’s leadership in breast cancer.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
We know you will have and be able to
- 10 – 15 years of leadership experience at the Director level or higher.
- Doctoral degree required (M.D. or Ph.D. in public health or related discipline.)
- Direct experience and demonstrated positive outcomes in setting vision, leading strategy, community health program development, and implementation of initiatives designed to achieve health equity in underserved communities.
- Experience in designing, implementing and evaluating direct patient care services.
- Successful leadership and management of senior staff with highly matrixed teams, preferably in a remote work environment.
- Publication history in public health, breast cancer, or related subjects.
- The ability to supervise the following: Program Administrator; Senior Director, Patient Care Services; Director, Community Programs, and Director Community Outreach and has a downline of approximately 40 staff members.
- Travel requirements required outside of your home office will approx. 10% or more depending on our business needs.

- Approximate salary of $153,000 - $220,000, exact compensation ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job level, internal equity and budget. Exact salary offers will be determined by factors such as the candidate's skills, experience and geographic location.

Komen provides a remote and/or home-based working environment for all active employees. Komen defines remote as the ability to work from any physical location within the U.S. where an employee can perform specified work duties without disruption or distraction. Komen defines home-based roles as positions that are required to reside in a specific market.
